Grant Kirkhope, the composer behind all of Rare's Banjo-Kazooie games, has admitted that he has "zero hope" for a new entry in the series and brutally noted that fans wouldn't like whatever it is anyway.

Over the past few years, something glorious has been happening - 3D platformers have finally been returning with full force. Psychonauts 2, Penny's Big Breakaway, RKGK, Sonic X Shadow Generations and, of course, Astro Bot have all shown how much life there is in a genre that many feared would be left for the indies.

While Nintendo and PlayStation are happily battling it out in Run and Jump land, Xbox hasn't really done much since Raz's second psychic outing. That's especially strange considering the fact that it has one of the most beloved platforming duos of the past few generations under its belt - Banjo and Kazooie.

Grant Kirkhope Doesn't Expect Banjo-Threeie

For a long time now, Banjo-Kazooie fans have wondered whether Rare or Xbox is going to bother bringing the Bear and Bird duo back for a new game. It's looked unlikely for a while as Rare focuses on Everwild and Sea of Thieves, and that coffin just got another nail in it from series composer Grant Kirkhope.

Earlier this week, Kirkhope shared an article on Twitter about how Moon Studios' CEO believes a new Banjo game could rival Super Mario. This, of course, resulted in a lot of chatter about a new Banjo, which Kirkhope quickly shut down. In a separate tweet, the composer said that he has "zero hope" for a new entry in the series and noted that most fans would just "sl*g" another game off anyway.

That comment is clearly nodding towards Nuts & Bolts here, which got a lot of flack when it released for not really being about platforming. It was still a banger, though.

Kirkhope later shared another tweet apologising for coming across as mean and saying that the Banjo fanverse is a "wonderful thing". It seems that the beloved musician is just as sick of us as waiting for a new game and hearing the endless speculation about it when there's clearly a hungry audience there. I guess the ball is in Xbox's court now.
