Baldur's Gate 3 players on PS5 are reporting crashes and some save files not loading altogether, as an apparent issue with PSN seems to be interfering with the game. Until this is fixed, Larian Studios recommends that players turn the Wi-Fi connection off on their consoles, playing offline for the time being.

We can confirm that this fix works, as save files that wouldn't load at all are now perfectly playable in offline mode. However, it does mean you can't have any updates ticking along in the background while you play, which is a pretty significant drawback.

I first came across the issue last night, and it seems like many others online did too. Twitter and Reddit were flooded with complaints of crashes and safe files not loading, leading some to fear that progress would be lost. Some went as far as deleting and reinstalling the entire game, something that would have taken some time indeed.

But fret not, your saves are safe and you don't have to wait hours for the game to install all over again. Disconnecting your PS5 from the internet should be enough to get your saves to load, even if the game originally suggested that there was something wrong with them.

Larian has confirmed as much, saying that players should go offline until the issue is addressed. It's not clear who will be fixing it though, as it says it's an issue with PSN. In any case, it is investigating the bug. As inconvenient as this is, it at least means you can go ahead and play as usual - just don't expect to have any Trophies come through, or have your save files backed up for some time.

It's also worth noting that the issue seems to be fixed on my end, although others online still say they can't play online. After playing offline last night, PSN was behaving itself with me just now, so it may have been fixed for some players if not all.

This isn't the only issue players want Larian to address though. Act 3 is still known to cause performance issues, especially framerate dips. Updates have been fairly regular since launch, so with any luck, this will be fixed in time for us console players to make the most of the game's final act - even if our PC friends weren't as lucky.
