Summary

  • Baldur's Gate 3 fans have been sharing stories about trying to stop some of the game's most death-happy NPCs from dying, discussing which are the hardest to keep alive.
  • Steel Watch Foundry's Gondians were a popular choice, with fans having to massively prepare or utilize stealth to keep them all from teleporting into danger.
  • Another popular choice is the man who is fed to the spiders in the Goblin Camp, while Jaheira also gets a drive by for running into danger if she's not being controlled.

Baldur's Gate 3 has a world that is full of living, breathing NPCs that have their own stories and families for you to look into. Each death in Baldur's Gate 3 has some weight to it because of that, whether it be a plot essential quest giver that croaks, or just Billy the butcher who has a 9 to 5 in the Lower City. If you want to be a hero to the people of Baldur's Gate, you have to try your best to keep people alive.

However, there are some NPCs that just love the idea of dying, and stopping them from throwing themselves into the jaws of death can sometimes feel harder than an Honor Mode run in nothing but your skivvies. Earlier this week, Baldur's Gate 3 players were sharing stories of the times they attempted to keep some of the game's squishier NPCs alive and well.

Baldur's Gate 3 Fans Discuss Which NPCs Are The Hardest To Keep Alive

The topic itself was first brought up by a user called KristiColleen, who was frustrated with how often NPCs can be "liabilities", and asked the rest of Reddit's BG3 community which NPCs they think are the hardest to keep alive.

One of the more popular answers is the Gondians in the Steel Watch Foundry, who - despite having an ability that literally lets them teleport out of danger - make it their mission to get themselves killed. A user called 4Khazmodan goes as far as calling them "suicidal", attacking enemies that are about to explode, and teleporting directly into danger whenever they can.

Thankfully, there are clever ways to get around the problem, as a user called Novalene_Wildheart explains they were able to sneak into the control room with their main character and Zanner Toobin while the rest of their team stood idly in combat to stop things from happening. Another user claims they also managed to save everyone, but it took "having 6 characters and an exceptionally strong setup".

Another user called Leather_Sector_1948 reckons the guy that's pushed into the spider pit in the Goblin Camp is impossible to save, though a user called Marekjester says they managed it by having a character with high strength jump over the pit, pick the guy up by using him as an improvised weapon, and then get away.

Not even important characters are immune to the wonky Baldur's Gate 3 AI, as a lot of people also bring up Jaheira running into as much danger as she can during the fight at Moonrise, forcing you to add her to your party if you want her to stay alive. The effort we all go to just to be heroic, eh?
