Craig Mazin Wants To Involve The Baldur's Gate 3 Cast In The HBO Show, "Either As Someone Familiar Or Someone New"
Earlier this year, HBO announced that The Last of Us and Chernobyl showrunner Craig Mazin would be heading up a Baldur's Gate show set after the events of BG3, teasing that we could expect "new and returning" characters. While it's unclear if the game's cast will return to play them, Karlach actor Samantha Béart claims there's a chance that they will.
"I think I'm ready to make a statement that I've prepared," they said at Future Games Show (via FRVR). "I actually know Craig through BAFTA Breakthrough 'cause he casts game actors in his TV shows. Anyway, I've got my thing. Craig Mazin has personally expressed to me his belief that the key cast of Baldur's Gate 3 should be represented meaningfully on-screen on the show, either as someone familiar or someone new. And that's the words he actually said to me.
It's easy to imagine fan-favorites like Neil Newbon and Jennifer English reprising their roles as Astarion and Shadowheart, even in smaller cameos, whereas tertiary companions like Minsc might be recast if they do appear (as much as I'd love to see Matthew Mercer bulk up and wear a bald cap).
Equally, we could see some of the cast appear as other characters, much like how Ashley Johnson — who played Ellie in The Last of Us — played Ellie's mother in the TV show. But that's entirely speculation — we don't even know what the story will entail yet.
Craig Mazin Reached Out To Swen Vincke: "We'll Have The Opportunity To Tell Him Our Thoughts"
Mazin might be open to bringing back the cast in some capacity, but unfortunately, Larian Studios is not involved with the adaptation, despite the resounding success of Baldur's Gate 3.
With that being said, Mazin did make contact with the team earlier this year to start a dialogue. "We'll have the opportunity to tell him our thoughts," CEO Swen Vincke explained in an X post expressing his support for the series. "Craig did reach out to ask if he could come over to the studio to speak with us. From the conversation we had, I think he truly is a big fan which gives me hope."

It's really important that artistic endeavors are left to cook. What they'll do with it, who knows?"
