Minthara's Actor Is Glad Fans Realise She's More Than "A Killing Machine"

Summary
- Minthara actor Emma Gregory discussed her character's depth at MCM Comic Con this weekend.
- Gregory says that Minthara is much more than an "evil killing machine", and is glad fans realise this.
- She does, however, miss Minthara's early access look.
When Baldur's Gate 3 first launched, it was easy for players to write Minthara off as just an evil, irredeemable murderer. The only way to recruit her was to slaughter a camp full of innocent tieflings, something most players weren't willing to do on their first playthrough.
However, a post-launch patch let players recruit her on good playthroughs too, as long as she was knocked out in combat rather than killed. Through this, fans could finally realise that Minthara is so much more than her Absolute brainwashing, and no one was more excited about this than her actor, Emma Gregory.
Emma Gregory Explains Minthara's Character Development
Speaking at a panel at MCM Comic Con this weekend, Gregory shared one of her favourite memories from Baldur's Gate 3. Unsurprisingly, one of them is seeing fans fall in love with Minthara - or as she calls her, Minthy.
"A lasting memory for me would be when Larian decided to go on an extraordinary journey with Minthara as a character. To make her a recruitable character, to change her look," says Gregory. "Even though I think the first look in early access was very sexy, I also like the current look. I think it works very well with my voice."
Here's her old look, in case you were wondering.
She goes further, recounting her favourite Minthara line: "A lasting line for me, in showing how multifaceted, multilayered she is, would be her line, 'It is not soft to love another, it is one of the hardest things a person can do'. It sums up the fact that Minthy - I call her Minthy - is not just a one-dimensional, evil killing machine."
Now, as Minthara has built up a strong following, Gregory is thrilled to see that others have seen this side of her character. "A current lasting memory for me is how much everybody is appreciating her," says Gregory. "Meeting all of you has been overwhelming in a wonderful way. It's extraordinary. How much these characters meant to everybody is something I will treasure and value for the rest of my life."
Minthara's fans are very dedicated indeed. After a recent update, players were incredibly quick to notice that Minthara would now break up with Dark Urges who resisted Bhaal. Her fans were furious, but Larian was quick to reassure them that this was a mistake, with cut content accidentally being included in the update. It was reversed, but it might have gone unnoticed longer if her fans weren't so passionate.
