In Baldur's Gate 3, no amount of attention seems to be enough to satisfy Raphael. Even after the cambion finishes pestering you in Act 1, he continues to follow you, tempt you, and even send out spies after you. Because of this, he can be found scattered across several locations, and each time he has something new to offer.

Moonrise Towers is the location of Baldur's Gate 3's Act 2 climax and is a very important place. Here's how to get there.

All of his attention, though, is key to solving a few puzzles scattered throughout the game; namely, the meaning behind the scars on Astarion's back. So as you explore the Shadow-Cursed Lands, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for this charming devil and your ears open to what deals he might be willing to strike.

The Pale Elf Quest

Raphael's cameos in Act Two will be foreshadowed by Astarion if you have been making progress on his character quest "The Pale Elf."

During camp dialogue in Act Two, you will find Astarion curious about the scars on his back, and he thinks Raphael will be able to answer his questions. Astarion then tells you to keep an eye out for Raphael, giving you the chance to prepare for this fiendish encounter.

This dialogue only prompts if you have a high enough approval rating with Astarion and have had previous conversations with him about his backstory. Your relationship with Astarion, though, does not change Raphael's base encounters.

List Of Raphael's Possible Spawn Locations

Raphael can always be found in front of the Thorm Mausoleum. His other locations vary depending on the order in which you arrive at certain locations and how you complete quests.

  • Last Light Inn (X: -60, Y: -21)
  • Thorm Mausoleum (X: -191 Y: 102)
  • Gauntlet of Shar (X: -639 Y: -756)
  • Campsite

Raphael will only appear in the Last Light Inn if you go there before you go to the Thorm Mausoleum.

Location One: Last Light Inn

The first place you will likely spot Raphael is on the lower floor of the Last Light Inn near the windows on the left-hand side. Odds are you will find the devil playing lanceboard, a chess-like game, with Mol, the tiefling girl from the Druid Grove.

If Mol died in Act One, then she will not be with Raphael, and instead he is playing alone. This does not majorly change dialogue with him, but it does change the later quests regarding Raphael and Mol.

The cutscene with Raphael will not trigger until you interact with him, giving you ample time to prepare.

We recommend that you use this time to bring Astarion into your party, whether he has opened up to you about his scars or not.

Your dialogue with Raphael will vary heavily depending on whether or not Astarion is in your party. If Astarion is with you, speaking to Raphael will help you progress in your character quest with him, and also spices up the conversation a bit.

After this cutscene, Raphael will disappear, but you will be able to find him again later to continue the story.

Special Encounter: Korilla

Korilla, a spy who works for Raphael, can be found in Act Two as well. You can spot her briefly in the Mason's Guild (X: -107 Y: -21) before she vanishes into a fiery swirl. If you are quick enough, you can briefly interact with her, and she emphasizes your importance to Raphael before she vanishes.

Location Two: Thorm Mausoleum

You can next find Raphael outside of the Thorm Mausoleum, where he is practicing poetry while he waits.

For this interaction we recommend that you have both Astarion and Karlach in your party, since Karlach will help give you hints about Raphael's old enemy.

Raphael will taunt the party briefly before revealing his true intentions for speaking to you; he wants an old enemy of his slain, and he asks you to do it for him.

If Astarion is in your party, Raphael will make the deal even more enticing. Raphael says he has answers for Astarion, but only if you kill the orthon; a deal that Astarion happily takes.

If Astarion is not with you at either the Last Light Inn or at the Thorm Mausoleum, Raphael will not make the deal with Astarion, and you will not be able to progress in the quest "The Pale Elf" until you reach Baldur's Gate.

After this appearance, Raphael's next appearance varies depending on how you deal with the orthon.

Location Three: Gauntlet Of Shar

Raphael will only appear in the Gauntlet of Shar if you help the orthon fulfill his contract instead of killing him. Raphael will spawn on the stage near the orthon's bed but cannot be interacted with.

Once you return to the orthon to tell him about your success, Raphael will show up to tell the orthon that he is in breach of contract. Raphael will then convince the orthon to strike a new deal, leaving your party behind.

Going this route will make Astarion disapprove of you, and will result in him leaving if you cannot succeed on the checks to make him stay. It also means you cannot progress in "The Pale Elf" quest until you get to Baldur's Gate.

Location Four: Campsite

Raphael will only appear in your campsite if you kill the orthon. He will appear whenever you next complete a long rest in an unskippable cutscene.

Raphael will come to deliver news to Astarion about his scars, and provides useful story hints about what the group will face if they confront Cazador. This will also allow you to complete as much of Astarion's story quest as possible before you reach Act Three.

Whether you meet Raphael in the Gauntlet of Shar or in your camp, this is the last you will see of him until Act Three. So let out a sigh of relief for now, but know that this cunning devil will track you down again sooner or later.
