In Baldur's Gate 3, enemies are always hot on your tail, although some take this more literally than some. While exploring the vast forests, cliffsides, and encampments in Baldur's Gate 3, one hot-tempered but cool-faced devil takes this phrase quite literally.

The devil that you once knew.

Raphael is a cambion straight from the Hells, playing nice in order to convince you to sell your soul to him. Over the course of your explorations in Act 1, Raphael could appear in any number of places, arising in a burst of flames to taunt your party. The trick is knowing where to find him.

List Of Raphael's Possible Spawn Locations

He will spawn at any one of these locations, whichever you find first. After that, he will not spawn again in Act 1.

  • Sacred Pool in Druid Grove (X: 275 Y: 525)
  • Harper's Stash (X: 153 Y: 371)
  • Forest north of Blighted Village (X: -6 Y: 476)
  • Shattered Sanctum (X: 309 Y: -20)
  • Selûnite Outpost (X: 154, Y: -237)
  • Special Location: Campsite

The use of numbers to cite locations in this article has no in-game value, and instead refers to the distance each possible spawn location is from the start of Act 1 (Nautiloid Crash).

Location One: Sacred Pool

The Sacred Pool is located within the Druid Grove, where the Rite of Thorns is being conducted. Raphael will spawn when you walk under the small archway near the white-and-blue pillars that leads outside the Sacred Pool.

Location Two: Harper's Stash

Of all the locations, this is the trickiest to find, as it isn't near any quest locations. The Harper's stash is on an outcropping to the left of the Druid Grove. You must first hop up the cliffside and climb up the craggy rocks, then Raphael will spawn.

Location Three: Forest North Of Blighted Village

This location is most easily identified as being near the broken bridge leading to Risen Road. To reach it, navigate towards the northern entrance/exit to the Blighted Village, walk past the "loud" barn doors, and towards the broken bridge. Just before the bridge, Raphael will spawn.

This bridge can also be reached from the Risen Road side by walking southwest and jumping across the gap in the bridge.

Location Four: Shattered Sanctum

The Shattered Sanctum is the interior portion of the Goblin Camp on the western part of the map. Finding Raphael here takes a bit of work.

First, you must handle the goblins in the sanctum, either by allying with Priestess Gut or killing all the goblins. While in the main foyer (the room with Priestess Gut), you can find a ladder on the right side of the room leading to the rafters. Once you climb the ladder, Raphael will spawn.

The rafters can also be accessed from the outside of the sanctum. On the upper story of the Goblin Camp, near the center of the main balcony, you can find a cracked wall (revealed with a successful Perception Check). Destroying this wall will lead you to the rafters inside the Shattered Sanctum near where Raphael will spawn.

Location Five: Selûnite Outpost

The final overworld spawn point for Raphael is in the Underdark in the Selûnite Outpost. The Selûnite Outpost can be accessed from various locations in the Underdark, regardless of your point of entry.

However, the recommended path to find Raphael here is to enter the Priestess Quarters Entrance (X: 253 Y: -8), go through the tunnel in the Defiled Temple, solve the puzzle, and take the ladder down. At the base of the stairs in the outpost, Raphael will spawn.

Special Location: Campsite

This location is marked as "special" as you can only meet Raphael in your camp if you do not meet him anywhere else in the overworld. Raphael will spawn in your camp and prompt you to speak with him during the mandatory long rest before entering Act 2.

No matter where you meet Raphael in Act 1, his cutscene and dialogue options remain the same.

Because Raphael will spawn in your camp, you will always have the opportunity to meet him in Act 1, even if you can't fully explore the overworld. So enjoy the House of Hope, load up your plate, and get to know this devil before it's too late.
