Baldur's Gate 3 promises you an epic fantasy adventure in one of Dungeons & Dragons' most popular campaign settings. With a huge cast of characters, the folks at Larian Studios have gone to great lengths to give most of them unique names, often mirroring the naming chops of pen-and-paper DMs.

PostsFor every boring, respectable fantasy name in Baldur's Gate 3, there's a Sauceman Chorizo or a Wulbren Bongle adding some much-needed chaos into the mix. Here are some of the best and most memorable names for NPCs, from Bunt Chugley to Blunt Skuncher.
Most of these are from Act 3, but all acts are shown some love.
10 He Who Was
- First Appearance: Act 2
- Related Quests: Punish the Wicked
Wander around for a bit in the Shadow-Cursed Lands of Act 2, and you'll run into a shadar-kai named He Who Was. It's a brooding, mysterious name that's almost too grim to be taken seriously. This makes sense when you take into account the shadar-kai's status as the supreme edgelords of the multiverse.
He Who Was' name lends an air of mystery about him, but ultimately asks more questions than it answers. You never find out why he's so obsessed with making dead people feel bad about the sins they committed in life, but He Who Was is a character that works purely because of vibes.
9 Dolly Dolly Dolly
- First Appearance: Act 2
- Related Quests: Follow the Convoy, Seek Protection from the Shadow Curse, Stop the Presses
Dolly Dolly Dolly (also known as Dolly Thrice) is the pixie trapped in the moonlantern carried by the drider Kar'niss, who you can kill and loot from in Act 2. It's a whimsical name befitting a tiny fey creature, especially one as prone to mischief and frightening absurdity as she is.
If you release Dolly Thrice, she'll bless your party with immunity to the shadow curse for the rest of Act 2, and another quest in Act 3 will be made significantly easier. Should you decide to keep her in her prison, however, she'll treat you like the utter clown you are with a well-deserved curse.
8 Blunt Skuncher
- First Appearance: Act 3
- Related Quests: The High Harper
There is so much more that could have been done with Blunt Skuncher. He's one of the members of Cairos' party, who you meet when finding envoys of the Stone Lord amidst a confrontation with The Guild in Act 3. Alas, he doesn't even get his own unique dialog.

Act Two of Baldur's Gate 3 takes place in a land plagued by a magical curse - luckily, you have the power to lift the curse.
PostsThe reason a name like Blunt Skuncher sticks out should be self-explanatory. While most generic mooks in Baldur's Gate 3 seem to have names ripped straight from the nearest fantasy name generator, the ones in Act 3 have some delightful chaos injected into the mix.
7 Wulbren Bongle
- First Appearance: First mentioned by Barcus Wroot in Act 1, but appears in person in act 2
- Related Quests: Rescue Wulbren, Avenge The Ironhands, Deal With The Gnomes
Wulbren Bongle is easily one of the most hated characters in Baldur's Gate 3, being one of the few characters to inspire their own diss track. You first meet him in Act 2, where he thanks you for saving him by acting like an entitled jerk and being unnecessarily cruel to his "best friend" Barcus.
Despite his insufferable nature, however, Wulbren has one of the silliest-sounding names in the game. This is to be expected since he's a gnome, but it certainly makes screaming curses at him more fun. Unfortunately for Wulbren, his name is the only funny thing about him.
6 His Majesty
- First Appearance: Act 2
- Related Quests: None
There are a lot of cats in Baldur's Gate 3, but few of them are as memorable as His Majesty. You can find this charming kitty in the Last Light Inn during Act 2, where he spends most of his time sleeping, being a menace, and waiting for a saucer of milk that will never come.
What makes this NPC's name great is how perfectly it encapsulates everything he is. His Majesty is the most regal cat you will ever find in the game, and any other name would simply obscure this indisputable fact from the player. He is a king among kings, and you will bow to his glory.
5 Oyster Boy Dringo
- First Appearance: Act 3
- Related Quests: None
Let's be honest here: 'Dringo' alone isn't the catchiest of names when put against bangers like Blunt Skuncher and Spatula Farggo. The 'Oyster Boy' prefix is what makes this moniker, transforming it from a generic fantasy name into a name befitting a filthy Victorian orphan lad.
RelatedBaldur's Gate 3: Where To Find The Blood Of Lathander
Rosymorn Monastery holds one of Baldur's Gate 3's more powerful weapons, but you'll need to solve some puzzles to acquire it.
PostsSure enough, Oyster Boy Dringo is a scruffy boy who has lived a life of sorrow and struggles, being the pitiful son of a fisherman. There's something positively Dickensian about him, and it's unclear whether his presence would have had the same impact in the game had he been named anything else.
4 BOOOAL
- First Appearance: Act 1
- Related Quests: None
Despite common misconceptions, Bhaal is the god of murder, not BOOOAL. But BOOOAL doesn't let his lack of a proper domain get in the way of being worshipped. You can find him in a hidden area of the Underdark in Act 1, where he enjoys the adulation put upon him by a group of kuo-toa.
BOOOAL is the only character in the game whose name is both spelled and pronounced with all capital letters, letting you bask in his godly presence should you decide to receive his blessing or steal his glory. You don't get anything too special for deciding to kill him and steal his throne, but it is incredibly satisfying.
3 Bunt Chugley
- First Appearance: Act 3
- Related Quests: None
There's not much to say about Bunt Chugley. He's a generic human commoner who wanders the streets of Baldur's Gate, and while his dialog suggests that he's in the city on a business trip, there's not much else to his character. That doesn't matter to the fanbase, however, who are delighted by his silly name.
The NPCs in Act 3 tend to have more memorable names than the game's previous acts, so it was hard to decide which ones made it onto this list. Bunt Chugley, however, has charmed the fandom with his weird name and lack of backstory, in much the same way that a D&D party would get attached to a randomly improvised NPC.
2 Hunkers Boolean
- First Appearance: Act 3
- Related Quests: None
Like many NPCs on this list, Hunkers Boolean is an extremely minor character from Act 3. He's one of the many refugees you can encounter in Rivington, where he can be found arguing with his dragonborn boyfriend over whether to fight the Flaming Fists to gain entry to Baldur's Gate.
Despite berating his partner for his so-called cowardice, Hunkers does seem to truly care about the dragonborn. It's unclear what inspired Larian Studios to name an NPC such a nonsensical combination of words, but it does help distinguish Hunkers Boolean from the sea of similar human commoners.
1 Sauceman Chorizo
- First Appearance: Act 3
- Related Quests: None
Sometimes a silly NPC name is just a mash of funny sounds that never leaves the head. Sometimes an NPC has a name that sings to their true nature. Seldom do these paths cross, but in the case of Sauceman Chorizo, these seemingly conflicting traits are found together in the same beautiful moniker.
A chorizo is a type of pork sausage, but it's also one of the catchiest words in any language, especially when preceded by the word 'sauceman'. His name is ambrosia to the lips, begging you to say it over and over again. Sauceman Chorizo may not be the NPC we need, but he is absolutely the NPC we deserve.
