One aspect of Astro Bot that makes it stand out from other 3D platformers is the dedication to the stars of PlayStation's history. With over 100 references to different characters, creatures, and objects from throughout the history of Sony's consoles, it's hard to be disappointed.

Astro Bot has a lot of great levels, but these are the best.

However, that doesn't mean that there are a handful of characters or franchises that we think could've been represented in the crowd of cameo bots featured in Astro Bot. So, out of all the different series' that are not represented in Astro Bot, which do we wish got a chance to shine at the Crash Site?

7 Ace Attorney

Objection!

Close

While Capcom's Ace Attorney series began its life on Nintendo's handhelds, ever since the entries have started getting ported onto moderns consoles (including PlayStation 4 and 5) it has begun the renaissance it is currently enjoying.

With Capcom having multiple other representatives with characters from Resident Evil and Okami, it would've been amazing if a cameo bot could've donned Phoenix Wright's iconic suit and hairstyle, and maybe if we were lucky, other characters like Edgeworth and Maya too.

6 Hastune Miku

While Hatsune Miku is by no means limited to the gaming sphere, the star Vocaloid has featured as the protagonist in plenty of different games, and for the most part, these have been on Sony's systems.

The iconic virtual singer has cameoed in a wide variety of other games, and it's almost become a running joke that she'll continue her reign as the cameo queen of gaming, so it only feels right that she should've been included in Astro Bot.

5 Sonic The Hedgehog

Astro Bot At The Speed Of Sound

Close

The blue blur is undeniably one of the most iconic figures in gaming, synonymous with the medium, and if included in Astro Bot, would have likely been the most recognisable addition. While of course, Sonic has never been exclusive to Sony consoles (given Sega's previous dedication to producing their own line of systems), he has featured on every modern Sony device in some capacity.

In spite of Sonic's legend status, Sega hasn't been too protective with his IP, letting him gallivant around in plenty of different crossover projects, so adding him into Astro Bot doesn't seem far out of the realms of possibility. If we were lucky, we could even get side characters like Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, or Amy.

4 Stellar Blade

The Other Star Of The PS5 For 2024

Close

Arguably, one of the most noticeable omissions when it comes to the array of characters represented in Astro Bot are characters that originate in Playstation 5 games. The hard truth of this is that the current console lacks the exclusives the previous iterations had, but that makes ignoring the few exclusives it does have even more egregious.

Perhaps the biggest PlayStation 5 release of 2024 outside of Astro Bot itself was Stellar Blade. Having a cameo bot designed to represent Eve would've been a perfect nod to the action-packed exclusive that feels notably missing otherwise.

3 Baldur's Gate 3

Roll For Cameo

Close

While it was by no means an exclusive release on PlayStation 5, the biggest game of 2023 felt at home on the system as a home console option, and while Baldur's Gate 3 was designed with PC in mind, it plays remarkably well on the console too.

Another potential option for representing Sony's latest console, adding even a couple of characters from the Dungeons & Dragons-inspired phenomena would've been a genius addition thanks to the popularity of the game, and the recent icon status and recognizability of its core cast.

2 Kingdom Hearts

Really Not That Complicated

Close

While it is completely understandable why it's missing, it also feels like some more active effort could've been put into making sure that Kingdom Hearts was represented in Astro Bot. While the series as a whole is now more focused on being accessible on multiple platforms, the earlier entries especially were focused on Sony's consoles, with the original and Kingdom Hearts 2 being clear examples.

Of course, it's asking a lot for Astro Bot to be dressed up like Mickey, Donald, or Goofy thanks to the unbreakable ties and protective gaze of Disney, but original characters like Sora, Riku, and Kairi are just as recognizable as gaming icons, and having them be missing feels like a crime in itself.

1 Final Fantasy

Not Even Cloud?

Close

Likely the most egregious omission, thanks to how closely associated the series is with Sony's consoles, is the complete absence of any Final Fantasy characters. Of course, we can assume that Square Enix were feeling particularly defensive thanks to this franchise as well as Kingdom Hearts being completely missing, but it still doesn't remove the sting of just how obvious their absence feels.

Every Sony home console featured an iconic Final Fantasy game, whether it's 7 on the PlayStation 1, 10 on the Playstation 2, 13 on the PlayStation 3, 15 and 7 Remake on PlayStation 4, and even 7 Rebirth and 16 are some of the few console exclusives for the PlayStation 5.

All of these games have iconic protagonists, as well as side characters too. Not having a cameo bot with Sephiroth's glossy locks or Noctis' emo attire feels disappointing.
