The world of Assassin's Creed Shadows is a vast and varied take on 16th-century Japan. There are dozens of settlements to explore and discover where most people are looking to go about their lives in peace. However, that doesn't apply to the enemies looking to take advantage of defenceless locals, such as bandits.

Bandits are at the centre of the Elder Empathy side quest, as you'll need to show them that bad deeds don't go unpunished. Here's how to discover the Elder Empathy side quest as well as how to find and defeat bandits in the Iga region.

How To Start Elder Empathy

Elder Empathy can be started as soon as the story's prologue has been completed, and you can free roam around the map. When heading back to Mibuno in the Iga region, you should notice an older lady stranded by the side of the road heading out of the north-west corner of the town. If you're struggling to find her, she's directly south of the Gear Vendor in this part of the settlement.

Speak to the old lady, and she'll explain that bandits have been causing havoc for her and the people of Iga. You offer to help,p and this starts Elder Empathy. Elder Empathy can be tracked in the People of Iga Objectives board in the pause menu.

Elder Empathy is split into three parts, but the overall objective of the side quest is to kill 100 bandits in Iga. Rewards are given for killing 25, 50, and 100 bandits. For killing 25 bandits, you're rewarded with 500 EXP and 750 Mon. At 50 bandits, you'll be awarded with 225 oakwood, 270 silk and 500 EXP. Finally, for 100 bandits killed, there will be 750 EXP as well as 300 tamahagane and 300 ironsand.

Iga Bandit Locations

Iga is the smallest region in AC Shadows, but despite this, there are plenty of areas where bandits are hiding. A good way to find bandits is to look forenemy areas in the region, which are indicated with a red diamond. If you're struggling to find them, go and climb the viewpoints of the area to reveal points of interest on the map in Iga.

The only downside to doing this is that red diamonds aren't exclusively bandit areas; they're also for areas where enemy soldiers are located, which don't count towards this side quest. You can spot bandits by their torn clothes and lack of armour, and it's not uncommon to spot them drinking at any hour of the day.

Only bandits killed in the Iga region will count for progress in this quest, so be sure to stay within its borders.

Four main areas within Iga are guaranteed to have bandits present in them. They can randomly spawn on the roads around Iga when travelling around, but if you travel to these four locations, kill the bandits, then rotate around, you should be able to get the 100 kills within four to five laps.

The Chigachi Ruins (1) usually have around six bandits that are pretty easy to assassinate if you're playing as Naoe and keep hidden. There are also a lot of resources here to plunder for your hideout, so be sure to take these before moving on.

Nabari Lookout (2) usually has two or three bandits near the viewpoint. With this being a viewpoint, it's very easy to fast travel to and farm those two or three enemies. There's usually a camp north of the Nabari Wilds and south of the river (3) that has a small bandit camp with three or four enemies present. They'll usually be drunk on sake, but don't mistake that for an easy time in combat, as they'll quickly snap out of that if they spot you.

The last bandit area is the best of the region, as the Four Devils Lair (4) usually has at least six bandits in its tunnels. They will split up into the different areas of the caves, so always be sure to venture deeper to find and kill all present. Like the Chigani Ruins, there are plenty of resources and materials to take when the bandits have been defeated.

Completing Elder Empathy

When you've killed 100 bandits in Iga, return to the old lady in Mibuno. Speak to her and explain that you've killed all the bandits in Iga, and she'll reward you with gold and 2,000 Mon for your trouble in addition to the rewards you've already acquired.
