It's no secret that Ark: Survival Evolved can be a pretty grindy game, and in Ark: Survival Ascended, the story is no different. At the very least, all that time spent crafting narcotics and taming dinosaurs goes a long way toward overall mobility and farming useful resources.

Sadly, it doesn't matter how many dinosaur tames you've got under your belt if you don't know the best locations to utilize them. Thankfully, you don't have to despair; even if you don't know where the most resource-dense regions and areas on The Island are, you will after a few minutes of reading.

This article only covers 'The Island' map, which is included in the base game. Additionally, it's a good idea to plan ahead by taming and using creatures that are particularly efficient at gathering any resources you want to farm.

5 Central Snowy Region

Make your way to the center of the cold, mountainous North. This resource can be difficult to see at times due to snow coverage and volumetric fog. You'll be able to find and farm copious amounts of Obsidian, which gets you one step closer to high-quality, Polymer-based items.

In addition, you can find a good amount of Crystal and a decent amount of Oil and Metal in this area, but largely, the resource density favors large-scale Obsidian gathering. Although you could use a trusty metal pickaxe, you should go the extra mile by bringing along an Ankylosaurus, Magmasaur, or Phoenix for a more efficient farming experience.

Also, if you're using an Anklyo, pump some points into melee damage; the more damage this dinosaur does, the faster it will gather resources. Alternatively, if you happen to have a Yutyrannus tamed, you can use it to buff your Ankylo, giving it a temporary damage boost.

4 Northwestern Outskirts

If you happen to find yourself in the Northwestern corner of the map, you'll find plenty of Crystal, Oil, and Silica Pearls near the coast, both on and near the snowy islands nearby. Also, If you're doing a lot of resource gathering in and around the water, you can make the process much more tolerable with a tamed Dunkleosteus.

There is, however, an even bigger, resource-related secret you might've missed in this region: a bunch of penguin-like creatures, Kairuku, live here. While they drop some basic, staple resources, like animal hide and meat, they also happen to be a great source of Organic Polymer.

Kairuku aren't dangerous, and If you're only interested in their Organic Polymer, the most effective tool for the job is a simple Wooden Club. Well, you could also run them over with dinosaurs that apply crushing damage, but that's just messed up.

3 The Volcano

Suppose you need large amounts of Obsidian, Crystal, or Rich Metal. In that case, there's no better place than the inside of the volcano just Northwest of the center of the map, which holds many densely populated groupings and nodes of these three resources.

Alternatively, if you feel like you're not prepared to make the climb, or preferably the flight to the top, you can find plenty of regular Metal nodes just by snooping around the base of the volcano. While you'd miss out on the other resources mentioned, at least you won't have to worry about stepping in lava.

If you want to harvest all of these resources indiscriminately without worrying about swapping between the most efficient dinosaurs, an Ankylosaurus is a reliable, multifaceted, resource-gathering machine that gets the job done.

2 Central And Northeastern Mountainous Regions

While the large, reddish-orange, mountainous region near the center of the map has copious amounts of Metal, the other resources you can find there, such as Crystal or Obsidian, are quite negligible. However, around the base and outskirts of this region is the best place to find tons of Bee Hives; just be prepared if you're going to mess with them.

The second mountainous region, just east of the volcano, has incredible amounts of Rich Metal; it is an ideal place for feeding your Metal Ingot empire and catapulting its production towards an industrial scale. It's about time you mass produce Firearms, Metal Tools, Irrigation Pipes, and other useful items.

The last, the Easternmost mountainous region near the coast, has a bunch of Crystal and a bit of Rich Metal near the peak, while many Metal nodes and some Obsidian nodes to the North and East can be found near the base of this area.

1 Southern Coastal Region

If you find yourself in the waters of this Southern, red, shaded strip, you can find plenty of sporadically-placed oil to farm underwater, but also a few Pearl Caves, denoted by the white arrows pointing to specific places in the Southeast and Southwest.

Alternatively, if you feel comfortable farming some of the aquatic creatures in this area, Basilosaurus are a great source of oil. Also, the squid-like Tusoteuthis, which are found in very deep water, are a seriously good creature to farm if you need Black Pearls.
