Netflix and Riot Games have dealt a hammer blow to the hearts of Arcane fans, as they have announced that Arcane Season 2 - which airs this November - will be the show's last.
Arcane is widely considered as one of the best ongoing video game TV adaptations out there at the moment, alongside the likes of HBO's The Last of Us and, more recently, Amazon's Fallout series. It managed to walk away with an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Programme back in 2022, and fended off Cyberpunk Edgerunners to take home the award for Best Adaptation at The Game Awards. What I'm trying to get across is that it's a pretty great show, which is why it's a shame that it's ending later this year.
Following the reveal of a new teaser trailer for Arcane Season 2 on Tuesday, the show's official Twitter account broke the bad news to fans and explained that it would be Arcane's "final season." Sure, we may have got our best look at next season after months of sneak peeks and screenshots, but it wasn't enough to suppress the disappointment we all felt when that tweet dropped.
Arcane Will End After Season 2
Thankfully, it's not all bad news. Arcane may be ending, but co-creator Christian Linke was on hand to offer us all a glimmer of hope. Linke explains that the decision to end Arcane was because the creators of the show "had a very specific ending in mind," which unfortunately means the show will wrap up with Season 2.
However, Linke goes on to explain that Arcane was actually "just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey," and that the creators will continue to work with animation studio Fortiche. The creators believe that Jinx and Vi's arcs as characters have "grown so far beyond [their] original dreams" and that it's time to move them on and start focusing on different champions from League of Legends.
It's then revealed that the creators of Arcane have more projects in the works across television and film, and that they are hoping to share more information "by the end of the year." With over 140 champions to choose from, it's not like they're going to have much trouble coming up with inspiration, so we'll just have to wait and see who gets the Arcane treatment later this year.

The teaser trailer is only the beginning of Arcane's eventual heartbreak.
