Arcane And Fallout Star Doesn't Want To Be Typecast As "Video Game Girl"

2024 has been a great year for Ella Purnell, with back to back hits to her name as Lucy in Fallout and Jinx in Arcane. However, she also had a great role in Yellowjackets before that. While she's become a hit with gamers and starred in two objectively good video game TV shows, the actor wants people to know there's more to her.

Annecy Festival and the new teaser trailer have given us an even deeper look at Arcane.
PostsIt seems that in a bid to avoid being typecasted, Purnell may stay away from other video game adaptations, at least for a while. The actor's latest project is a British dark comedy called Sweetpea, and hopefully she gets to showcase her range and avoid becoming what she calls a "gamer girl"
Ella Purnell May Avoid Further Video Game Adaptations
Speaking at MCM x EGX 2024 (thanks, GamesRadar+), Purnell said, "Here’s the truth, and I feel guilty saying this, but I’m not a gamer, and I don’t know how I’ve managed to land two video game adaptations that have both been good. I don’t know how that’s happened, but it has. I don’t know the answer.”
Purnell admitted that she isn't really into video games, but struck gold with the success of Fallout and Arcane. While her characters, Jinx and Lucy, aren't very similar, she worries that these roles may lead those who make casting decisions to believe that she's only good with a certain type of audience.
"I actually think I need to stay away from video game adaptations now, because I’m going to get typecast. I’m going to be the video game girl," she explained. "There are worse things to be than that, I suppose."
It looks like we may not see Purnell in any more video game adaptations for a while. Of course, she'll be in season two of Fallout, but it's highly unlikely that she'll be in the Arcane spin-offs.
Speaking of the Arcane spin-offs, there's been no official word on when one of them will come out or what they'll be about. However, showrunner Christian Linke has suggested that they could possibly expand on the stories of certain characters.
