From the best ways to optimize your tavern to how to pick what recipes you'll serve, we've got you covered. Here's everything you need to know to run a successful tavern in the middle of nowhere!

Clean Your Tavern

The first order of business is making sure your tavern is as spotless as can be. With clients coming in and out of the tavern, it's easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of cooking and serving meals.

However, don't forget to sweep up the floor and remove any webs that have taken up residence.

It might seem like a fruitless endeavor, but the cleanliness of your tavern directly impacts your overall rating. After all, who wants to eat in a dirty tavern? No one, that's who! Make sure you always have a broom on hand and clean up once the tavern closes for the night.

Prepare Dishes Early

There are several spots available for you to place dishes and drinks down on the counter. If you're playing with friends, this is a great way to ensure they can pick up orders and run them out. If you're playing alone, this is more storage space for you!

Don't forget to wash your dishes regularly between clients, or you'll run out!

Make as many dishes as you can before opening your tavern and fill every available space. This ensures that you don't run out of food while cooking more in the kitchen. Thinking ahead will save you time and earn you a better reputation, bringing in more of that glistening gold.

Shoo The Drunks

There's a drunk (or two) at every tavern, and while their singing makes great ambience, they're terrible customers. They take up space for paying customers and refuse to pay their tab until they leave.

Customers will also leave if zombies storm the tavern at night!

Keep one or two at the end of the night if you like, but be sure to kick them out during the height of business. You can do this by hitting them with the broom twice. They'll pay their tab and stumble out of the tavern. Don't worry about them – it's a straight shot home, and they'll make it there safely.

Change Your Menu

Just like cleanliness impacts your score, so does your menu. Serving the same items all the time will overall lower your score. The longer your menu is stale, the worse it will get. Instead, try shaking it up!

You can change your menu at any time by interacting with the book on the counter.

This will tell you how much money and experience each dish will give when served!

Add new recipes to the menu, and make sure you have enough ingredients to supply several customers with something fresh and delicious. They're sure to love it and will order plenty upon arrival.

Take Days Off

Running a 24-hour tavern may sound exciting, but it's also exhausting. Make sure to close the tavern to do any end of night tasks, like sweeping, washing the dishes, and planting more crops. Then, take the next day off to explore and rest.

There's plenty to find in the wilderness around the tavern. From delicious beasts you can hunt to delectable foraged foods, you'll want time to see the sights and expand your horizons so that your tavern is constantly growing and thriving.

Deliver Meals

The quest board outside the tavern will occasionally receive orders for delivery meals. This is the best way to make money, as the delivery fee is significantly higher. The drawback, however, is that you only have a limited time to deliver the meals once you accept the order.

To save time, make sure the delivery order dishes are in your inventory before accepting the request!

Once you accept the quest, open your quest log to track it, then follow the marker to the client who ordered lunch on the go. YOu'll hand off the food to them and be on your merry way with much more coin than you started with.

Buy Extra Plates And Mugs

You can never have enough dishes. As your tavern grows, you'll find that you need more and more supplies to constantly keep the tables full of warm food and frosty drinks. The dishes will pile up by the sink, and you'll really hate having to wash them in the middle of a rush.

When you complete a delivery order, you'll lose whatever plates and mugs were served since the client isn't coming back to the tavern to return them.

Do yourself a favor and purchase storage shelves for plates and mugs so you can put away clean utensils. The more you have, the less you'll need to stop by the dishwasher between orders.

Explore The Wilderness

While taking a day off to rest is important, it's also a good idea to set aside time explore. There are plenty of sights to see, from what's definitely not a witch's hut to ancient ruins in the swamp. Each place offers more to uncover about the area you've just moved to.

Additionally, you can hunt for supplies and loot crates in the forest, but beware the orc camps! These tough foes will attack without warning, leaving you on the hook for any expenses that result from your injuries.

Harvest Your Own Crops

While the merchant outside your tavern can supply materials for you, including seeds, it's often more cost-effective to grow them yourself. In a pinch, you can make a last-minute purchase, but it's better to save your gold for more important things.

Harvesting your own crops yields more over time and it allows you to save money on expensive groceries. While the planting takes a while, a bit of fertilizer and water can speed up the process and reward you with fresh crops much sooner.

Always Be Prepared

No matter what comes your way, it's best to be prepared. Don't wait until your tools break to buy a new one, and don't wait until you're out of food to start cooking the next set of meals.

Make sure to have a supply of potions in case you lose HP!

Planning ahead will set you up for success, as you'll always have just what you need. When you're out exploring, keep an axe or sword on hand to fight off enemies. Letting your guard down can result in painful and expensive consequences.

Make the most of your time, whether it's in the tavern or the wilderness, and always be prepared for surprise zombies.
