Once you get past the initial cutscene of Avowed, you'll be asked to choose a specific class for your character. Right after that screen, you'll be given a few attribute points for free to get yourself some nice early stats. However, it's important to pick these stats properly based on the build you're going for.

PostsAs you explore the map in the game, defeat enemies, finish quests, and unlock treasure, you'll consistently get level upgrades, which give you points to get even more abilities and attributes. Here's everything you need to know about these.
Avowed Attributes, Explained
While playing Avowed, you can find a total of six attributes to upgrade. Each one of these buffs two specific stats for your character, but that's not it. Depending on your level on each attribute, you can also get some unique dialogue options while talking to people, which can go a long way in some cases.
However, you have no way of knowing when you'll get these dialogues, so it's best to decide your attribute distribution based on your build. Here's what upgrading each one will do for your character:
Might
This stat increases your overall damage and carry capacity. While it sounds like an obvious upgrade option, carry capacity isn't as good as it seems since only your weapons and armor have weight.
Even if you get encumbered with these, you can easily store them at your camp from the inventory.
Constitution
Constitution increases your maximum health alongside poison and bleed resistance. Overall, it's great if you're taking head-on fights with little dodging.
Dexterity
Perfect for builds where you need a lot of agility like ranged builds or one-handed weapons since it buffs your attack speed and the speed at which you perform all actions.
Perception
Another good choice for ranged builds, Perception increases your crit chance and overall range with each weapon. There are also quite a lot of unique perception options.
Intellect
Intellect is for those who want to become a mage in Avowed as it buffs your maximum essence while giving high elemental resistance.
Resolve
Finally, an all-rounder stat that you can use on every build, Resolve increases your stamina and the chances of you arising from the dead when you're defeated.
In most cases, you'll get a specific amount of each stat whenever you upgrade an attribute. However, some of them can also alternate between two numbers.
Moreover, the amount of stats you gain with each upgrade can also change with higher levels on each attribute.
Avowed Abilities, Explained
The ability section in Avowed is something you'll only see once you've customized your character and joined the main world. You can find it by pressing the inventory button and then switching to the leftmost tab from the top. When you first look at this section, it'll be quite overwhelming to see the amount of abilities.
There are largely three types of abilities you can upgrade for your main build: Fighter, Ranger, and Wizard. Other than that, you'll also find Godlike abilities that you encounter as you progress through the story. Finally, as you unlock more companions, you'll see a section to upgrade your Companion abilities as well.
The Godlike abilities you acquire depend on the choices you make.
You can only upgrade your Companion abilities when your companion ranks up, and the three main types mentioned above can be upgraded when you rank up. While the specific abilities that you go for depend on your build and playstyle, there's a general idea that each type follows:
Fighter
This section heavily relies on increasing your damage in short-range combat as you wear heavy armor and use heavy weapons. With these upgrades, you can become a lot tankier and difficult to beat.
Ranger
This is the agility section of your abilities where you'll either get better movement or some way of immobilizing the enemies. You can also get direct damage boosts to light weapons here.
Wizard
Finally, as you can probably tell by the name, this section contains a boost to your magic powers and various magic abilities that you can use. You'll need a Grimoire to use these abilities without the upgrades in this section.
As you level up your Wizard abilities, you can also get Grimoire upgrades that let you use higher-tier abilities with them.
You can easily reset both your abilities and attribute points by spending 100 Currency on their respective screen. This lets you reassign all your points without taking any of them away.
