It feels like it has been a very long time coming, but with less than five months to go, the first proper trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is finally here. Almost two and a half minutes of action with a lot of heroes and villains, some we’ve seen in the MCU and others we have most definitely not, crammed in there. Let’s break it down and figure out everyone who’s going to show up based on what we were shown.

To Me, My X-Men

The trailer starts by showing Charles Xavier, who doesn't look like he's long for this multiverse. Later in the trailer, Professor X is shown again, this time with Magneto. We'd already been given a sneak peek at the returning X-Men via a prior teaser.

Speaking of X-Men, that was the same teaser in which we were shown Cyclops. James Marsden will return to the role for the first time in years, and the better look we got of him in comic-accurate Cyclops attire was the highlight of the trailer, for me at least. The new trailer also includes a first look at Mystique, both mimicking and battling Yelena. Gambit rounds out the traditional X-Men characters shown in the trailer. Thankfully, Channing Tatum's portrayal of the character will live beyond Deadpool & Wolverine.

Gambit is shown battling with Shang-Chi. A very welcome return to the MCU for that particular hero. Leading one of the better-received post-Endgame MCU movies, fans have been asking why we haven't been shown more of Shang-Chi in the five years since the release of Legend of the Ten Rings.

Thor, Cap', And Doom

The trailer is narrated by Chris Hemsworth's Thor. One of the only original Avengers left standing, although at the end of the trailer Thor is shown reuniting with Steve Rogers, the MCU's original Captain America. It's still not clear how exactly Cap' is back. The last time we saw him, he had decided to stay at a prior point in time, so he was seriously aged up by the end of Endgame.

The other big return in Doomsday will, of course, be Robert Downey Jr, but not as Iron Man. The man who made Tony Stark famous is the new big bad, Doctor Doom, someone we get our best look yet at multiple times in this new trailer. Thor is shown clashing with Doom, pulling the same move with Stormbreaker that he used to almost kill Thanos. It doesn't matter if he's aiming for the head or not this time, as Doom stops the incoming attack with a single finger and almost no effort.

Elsewhere in the trailer, it was confirmed that the Fantastic Four are clearly going to be getting a lot of screen time, as are the rest of the Thunderbolts. We're also getting Ant-Man back, along with Shuri, Namor, and other characters most closely associated with Black Panther. The full list of every main character I spotted can be found below.
