While many legacy features from the previous installments make their return, many of them have new twists that make them deeper and more complex than before, which can be tricky to get the hang of, especially if you are new to the series. However, with some information and experience, you will quickly become a master Alchemist in no time!
Craft Survival Tools
In the early goings of your adventure, you will only have Ryza's Staff to break pots, smash small rocks, and gather resources with. This means tons of materials will be passed by, with no way for you to obtain them. Luckily for you, you can craft all the core tools you need to gather these materials relatively early in your journey. There are five Survival Tools you should make as soon as possible, which are the following:
- Woodcutter's Axe
- Hammer
- Grass Sickle
- Fishing Rod
- Catcher's Net
Every Survival Tool listed above will grant you access to a wide range of resources that will, in turn, enable you to make even more things with Ryza's Alchemy. Some of these items will require materials you won't have access to until you begin returning to Kark Isle, but you must craft these as soon as you can. You can find what's needed to make these Survival Tools in the table below!
Core Survival Tools

Woodcutter's Axe

Hammer
- Eiche
- Amatite Ore
Grass Sickle
- Large Bone
- Polishing Powder
Fishing Rod
- Tough Log
- Alchemy Fibers
Catcher's Net
- Tough Log
- Alchemy Fibers
Despite being essential items, these Survival Tools do not need to be perfect or of the highest quality, at least not at first. Just crafting these at the start of your journey will substantially impact the rest of your adventure. You can always make new ones later when you gather more materials.
Explore Everything
There's no denying that exploration is the backbone of essentially every JRPG. Doing it in Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist Of The End & The Secret Key is even more crucial. You must constantly gather materials for your Alchemy and battle enemies to keep Ryza and her party leveling up. With the Survival Tools crafted and equipped from above, you should explore every possible nook and cranny, as it will almost always lead you to rare or high-quality materials.
If you see something that catches your eye in the distance, go check it out, it will almost always be worth exploring and will ultimately lead you to craft newer and better things in your Atelier. Furthermore, fighting everything in your path will also benefit you in the early goings as well, as you will obtain EXP and unique materials for doing so, making it a win/win in the earlier regions.
Be Mindful Of Your Basket
That being said, you should be mindful of your Basket. You can see how much space is left inside of it in the bottom right corner of your screen when you are out exploring the world. Your initial Basket limit is 300 and can be upgraded via the Skill Tree later. While this may seem like plenty of space, you will quickly learn that your Basket can and will fill up relatively quickly.
When your Basket does reach its limit, you can still collect new items. You will just have to discard some items as you gather new ones, making it rather tedious anytime you defeat an enemy or harvest materials. Traveling back to Ryza's Atelierwill store everything you have gathered in your Container, allowing you to go and collect even more resources. So, if you reach your Basket's capacity, you should fast-travel back to your HQ to offload everything. But you may want to learn more about Landmarks before doing so, which we will cover in the next section.
Use Landmarks To Your Advantage
Landmarks are crucial in Atelier Ryza 3, as they serve as your fast-travel points and give you the ability to craft unique Secret Keys that will be valuable in your Alchemy and combat encounters. For now, let's shift our focus to the fast-traveling aspect of Landmarks and how you can use them to your advantage when you are out exploring.
As covered above, you will constantly be fast traveling to your Atelier to offload your materials. However, this can get old quickly, especially if you aren't seeking out Landmarks when you are going from point A to point B. The general rule of thumb is to head to the nearest Landmark before fast traveling back to your Atlelier. You can instantly warp back to it after you drop your resources off, allowing you to retain your progress to your next area.
You can see where Landmarks are located by opening your current region's map by pressing Down on the D-Pad, then looking for a white icon of a Building with a Question Mark on it. When you discover the Landmark, this icon will change to a Gold Building, removing the fog of war on your map and enabling fast traveling. In some cases, the fog of war will remain until you find several Landmarks in the area, but so long as the icon is Gold, you can warp to it.
Many Landmarks will have enemies that show up when you discover them, so make sure your party is in good health before discovering them. It should also be noted that Landmarks might also have Normal and Random Quests nearby, which can be an excellent source of SP and materials, so you should always seek them out when possible.
Craft Everything At Least Once
With powerful Alchemy at your fingertips, it can be easy to zone in on crafting specific items or gear, ignoring things you can prepare in the meantime that can net you a solid amount of SP. Whether you need the item or not, you should try making everything available to you at least once, as you will get a decent SP boost for making something for the first time and will get even more SP if said item is of high quality.
Not only that, but you never know what most items are capable of until you make them and use them, whether they are a Consumable for combat encounters or something as unassuming as the Air Drop, a Survival Tool that enables you to dive underwater to explore and gather unique resources. There will always be something new to create with your Alchemy, and you should always take that risk as it will lead you to obtain cool new recipes and gear.
Don't Forget To Cook
Lastly, another easily overlooked feature of Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist Of The End & The Secret Key is the ability to Cook meals at Bonfires you will make or find around each region during your adventure. Bonfires have many incentives, as they can grant unique buffs such as increasing your EXP rate, raising your Attack or Defense, and much more for several minutes.
But, as mentioned, you can only prepare meals at Bonfires, which makes Cooking easily missable or forgettable, despite it being extremely crucial. Furthermore, you will learn more recipes as you carry out Memoirs, Random Quests, or some Normal Quests, so be on the lookout for when you obtain a new one so you can head back to a Bonfire and see what benefit the meal brings you!
