In the universe of Once Human, Earth is plagued by an infection that turns people and objects into Deviants. Players are Meta-Humans who can withstand the danger. Despite being a Meta-Human, you still do not want to risk high exposure to pollution. In high-pollution areas, your cradle will start showing you how much pollution you are getting.

PostsWhen the cradle on your back starts counting upward, you should be worried. Pollution drains your health bar and makes it so that you cannot heal. Learning how to deal with pollution is crucial for accessing more dangerous areas in the game.
How To Increase Pollution Resistance
Your main way of preventing pollution damage is by having gear that is high enough for the area you are in.
Gear has a percentage of pollution resistance. Higher tier gear will have better pollution resistance.
All early-game gear is tier 1 and has a base pollution resistance of nine. These can be upgraded to tier 2 to increase pollution resistance to 12. Chest armor and masks have a base pollution resistance of 12 and can be upgraded to 16 with Tier II crating.
You can select what tier armor you want to craft by using a Gear Workbench, selecting the armor, and looking on the right-hand side.
The original Test Subject outfit players started with has an increase in pollution resistance per piece in the set. Because of this, the Test Subject outfit is the best thing to wear at the beginning of the game (Dayton Wetlands) when you are in a high-pollution area.
The game will still make you go through areas that will deal damage to your health bar regardless of your gear. On top of having high pollution resistance, you need to utilize consumables that alleviate pollution damage.
How To Recover Sanity
When you take pollution damage and lose the ability to heal your full health, you then lose sanity. Sanity is tracked with the icon of a head, above your health bar. Decreased sanity eventually causes you to hallucinate and die.
Consumables can be crafted to cure the pollution damage done to your health bar. This will allow you to heal fully. You will have to unlock the recipe for these items.
Stoves and consumable recipes are found by opening your Memetics and looking under Logistics.

Another way to heal your sanity is to sleep. Using a bed in your territory will clear your health bar and heal you fully.
The Extradimensional Cat Deviant can make this process faster during sleep.
The correct gear, some Sanity Gummies, and a bed are all you need to ensure you will never die from pollution damage and decreased sanity.
