There's nothing quite like 'The Purification' in Oblivion Remastered. Your objective is a bold one, to say the least. The path to eliminating your several targets is a long one, with challenges befitting such an ambitious task. We dare say it's rather incredible that 'The Purification' isn't even the end of the Dark Brotherhood questline.

Our guide will get you through the foreboding Fort Farragut in the swiftest way possible. It will then cover the assassinations you've been ordered to commit, as well as the best ways to dispatch each target. Read on to commit one heck of a sin.

We've kept our introduction up there rather vague because there's a pretty big spoiler in this quest. Our advice is to avoid reading past 'By Order of the Black Hand', the article's second section, until you've reached that point, yourself.

How To Start 'The Purification'

In classic Dark Brotherhood fashion, commencing 'The Purification' involves picking up a prerequisite quest. Unlike most of these, it's rather involved.

This one's titled 'Of Secret and Shadow', and you'll get it upon returning from the previous "real" quest, 'Permanent Retirement'.

Ocheeva will give you a letter from Lucien. Apparently, he has orders for you that are so secretive, you've got to meet him elsewhere for them. Specifically, Fort Farragut. You'll find it to Cheydinhal's northeast.

By Order Of The Black Hand

Lucien's letter warns you that the minions in Fort Farragut will attack anyone on sight, which certainly complicates matters. The setup, then, is that you have to navigate the confines of this dungeon, dispatching Dark Guardians or sneaking past them as befits an assassin.

That's all well and good. But there's a far easier way to handle this situation. There's an interactive object just northwest from Fort Farragut's front door - a hollowed out tree offers a hidden entryway leading straight to the room in which Lucien is located!

Bear in mind, you miss out on opportunities for loot strewn throughout Fort Farragut if you follow this course. In our experience, the loot's really not worth the effort, however. It's not so much that the dungeon is long, but it's a bit tedious, and there's plenty of prime treasure elsewhere.

Speak with Lucien, at which point 'The Purification' is finally unlocked.

Do The Dark Deed

Lo and behold, Lucien's orders are grim, indeed. Your targets are every other member of the Cheydinhal Sanctuary. There's no option to circumvent this objective, so let's get started.

While there are plenty of ways to dispatch your Dark Brotherhood peers - after all, you should have a fairly high Sneak stat at this point - we'll go into the "better" ways, as they're the simplest overall.

First, you can purchase Poisoned Apples from Mraaj-Dar. There are also quite a few inside a barrel in Lucien's room back at Fort Farragut. Stash these in each Dark Brotherhood member's inventories all sneaky-like, and wait until they're eaten. It'll happen in due time.

Oh, and fittingly enough, Vicente is allergic to garlic. By stashing one of these in his inventory, he's suddenly significantly weaker as an opponent.

The other route, and our personal favourite, is to anger each member enough to attack you. They'll gladly chase you outside, so lure them into Cheydinhal proper, where the guards will kill them on-sight.

This may not work in your favour if you lure everyone out at once, but otherwise, the guards should successfully overpower them.

There is one possibly missing target here: Telaendril. She may be out wandering, but she's always present on Middas. You can reduce the number of enemies you must face at once by killing everyone else on a different day of the week and awaiting her return!

Be sure to loot everyone's corpses. In addition to some other goodies, you'll get keys to their respective chests for substantially better loot.

Return to Lucien to complete the quest!
