Oblivion Remastered gives you the power to specialize in as many schools of magic as you'd like, with six options to choose from. The school of Mysticism gives you the ability to absorb or deflect spells, move objects with your mind, sense life, and much more, depending on what you need.

Posts 1While the Destruction school of magic is excellent for dispatching enemies in an instant, Mysticism is more focused on providing quality of life benefits in addition to protection. The ability to reflect both magic and standard melee damage is available from some of the best Mysticism spells as you progress in your mastery of the form.
8 Remote Manipulation
- Telekinesis ten feet on target for 20 seconds.
Telekinesis might have a bit of a confusing description, but the effect should be evident: this spell lets you pick up and move objects from a distance using your magicka. While there's a good chance you've never even considered using this spell before in your life, there are certain occasions where it comes in handy.
Certain quests, like The Ghosts of Vitharn, require you to grab objects that might be out of reach if you don't have high Acrobatics.
Telekinesis comes in particularly clutch when grabbing Welkynd Stones from Ayleid Ruins.
7 Greater Dispel Other
- Dispel 60 points on target.
If you don't usually use Mysticism magic or play a mage character, then you might not be familiar with Dispel's effect at all – don't worry, it's understandable. In brief, Dispel removes any spell effects from the target, regardless of whether the effects are positive or negative.
Furthermore, if your target summons a creature to attack you using Conjuration, that summoned creature is also removed from existence, as it counts as a magicka-based effect. Dispel will only remove magicka-based effects and won't affect Greater Powers, scrolls, potions, or other effects.
6 Major Life Detection
- Detect Life 60 feet on self for 20 seconds.
Life Detection might sound purely like a minor convenience, but for thieves who need to maintain stealth at all times, knowing your enemies' locations is one of the most important pieces of information. Knowing how and when to alter your movements is a huge advantage, especially if you don't have 100 percent Chameleon yet.

PostsDetect Life is also included on the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal, indicating its importance to arguably the greatest thief in Cyrodiil. This spell provides a great stand-in if you don't have the cowl yet.
5 Major Dispel
- Dispel on self for 45 points.
As we've noted with the Greater Dispel Other entry, this spell will remove all magicka-based effects, with this version granting you this effect. Major Dispel allows you to reset all effects so you can remove any negative effects thrown at you, or reset your buffs if need be.
While this spell can be useful for any character in a pinch, it ironically functions better if you're not a mage or as long as you don't have the Atronach birthsign. If you do, there are better options still to come for dealing with annoying spellcasters.
4 Superior Spell Reflection
- Reflect Spell 20 percent for 20 seconds on self.
While some of the best Alteration spells are useful for producing a shield that can protect you from elemental damage, Mysticism offers a superior version. The upgrade to standard elemental shields and Aegis effects is Reflection, which allows you to send damage, in this case spells, right back at the enemy who attacked you.
Spell Reflection is a massive help against mages, especially for a warrior or other character that doesn't use magicka. However, if you're also a mage or hybrid magic user, there's an even better option for you to select, which we'll dive into shortly.
3 Clairvoyance
- Clairvoyance on self for 30 seconds.
If you've played Skyrim, then you probably recognize Clairvoyance from that game, as this spell originally appeared as a way to guide you to your objective. It returns in Oblivion Remastered with the same effect, this time filling a necessary void given the limited help the map gives.

Posts 3While you don't strictly need to use this spell at all, it's still an amazing option, considering its low cost and the immense amount of relief it can bring when you're stuck trying to figure out what elevation your objective is at.
2 Greater Soul Trap
- Soul Trap 30 seconds on target.
If you have the magicka and aptitude to cast this spell, you won't need any other Soul Trap variants, given the wide window of time this version gives you to finish off your enemy and bind their soul to one of your empty soul gems.
While you can also use weapons like Umbra that have the Soul Trap enchantment inherently applied, this spell can open up your options for weapons that may boast powerful damage-based effects.
1 Superior Spell Absorption
- Spell Absorption 20 points for 25 seconds on self.
Superior Spell Absorption is the best Mysticism spell in Oblivion Remastered, thanks to its two-pronged ability to both negate incoming spells and replenish your magicka. While options like Dispel or Spell Reflect can mitigate or avoid the damage from spells, Absorption avoids it entirely while also adding it to your magicka pool.
Magic users will be feasting with Spell Absorption, especially if you use the Atronach birthsign, which grants you a permanent 50 percent Spell Absorption in addition to this spell. At 75 percent absorption, you'll be eating magicka for breakfast and dishing it right back out.
