PostsOne of the last quests in the main story of the game is Light The Dragonfires, for Martin Septim to do his duty as an Emperor and set up the barrier against Oblivion. Will he prevail, or will Mehrunes Dagon swoop in and ruin it all at the very end? It's all up to you, the hero, to find out.
How To Start The Light The Dragonfires Quest
The quest automatically starts after the Paradise quest, when you give the Amulet of Kings to Martin Septim. He'll tell you that you'll need to go with him to the Imperial City, where you'll meet with Chancellor Ocato. From there, he'll need to light the Dragonfires so that they can seal all Oblivion gates.
How To Complete The Light The Dragonfires Quest
Talk to Martin Septim to follow you, and then head to the Imperial City Palace, which is in the center of the city. You can fast travel there or head over on foot or horseback.
It's best to fast travel there, since followers can be buggy when following you around the open world.
Once you get to the Imperial City, go inside the White-Gold Tower and into the Elder Council Chambers. There, you'll find Councilor Ocato. Martin would walk towards him to continue the quest. Get close to them, and Ocato will talk to you and then to Martin about the formalities.
The talk will be cut short as a member of the Imperial Watch storms into the room and tells them that the city is being attacked. Oblivion Gates have opened all around the city. After that, leveled Daedra will come into the chambers and try to attack Martin. Protect him at all costs.
Martin will tell you to escort him to the Temple District. You will need to fight your way through the Daedra. It's best to focus on whoever Martin is fighting, since Martin can die in this quest, thus leading to a game over.
Everyone there, except for Councilor Ocato, will be immortal, so keep that in mind.
Once you get to the Temple District, you'll see an Oblivion Gate and Daedra pouring out of it. Fight through them and head over to the entrance of the temple, which is south-southwest. As you get near, you'll see that Mehrunes Dagon has entered the city.
Martin will tell you that he has a plan and that both of you will need to get into the Temple. The entrance is to the side of Mehrunes Dagon. You can't kill the Daedric Prince, so run past him and enter the temple while protecting Martin.
When both of you enter the temple, Martin will talk to you for one last time before fighting Dagon himself using the Amulet. Enjoy the spectacle and the cutscene, which ends the quest.
