PostsWhile there are nearly endless bits of knowledge to gain through play, approaching Oblivion Remastered with an idea of how to manage your loot, how to approach fights, and an idea of some preliminary goals will help direct your playthrough. Here's every Oblivion Remastered pro tip you'll need to get off to the perfect start.
Save Often And Expect Glitches
Oblivion is one of the games that made this piece of advice feel standard for many RPGs, but never has saving been as important as in Oblivion Remastered.
Despite many improvements, Oblivion Remastered is still full of glitches, with Savlian Matius – a guard you meet during the Siege of Kvatch – providing one of the earliest glitches in the game, within the first handful of main story missions.
In our run, we had to save and reload due to a glitch within the first eight hours of gameplay, so don't underestimate their prevalence.
Savlian Matius frequently glitches out during the early game Kvatch quest, and will repeatedly yell "Charge the courtyard!", preventing the quest from progressing.
If this happens to you, you can complete the quest by continuing into the Main Hall and progressing toward the back room, where you can loot the count's body for a ring. This will move the quest forward.
Given the various other glitches that occur, saving often will be one of the smartest things you can do to ensure you don't lose hours of your time.
Be A Discerning Looter
Loot is everywhere in Oblivion Remastered, and you can find many hidden valuables, especially in the early game, starting with the chest at the start of the rat section in the tutorial stage (before the skeleton in the light).
However, don't let the plethora of loot excite you too much, as you're heavily limited by your carrying capacity, which is directly linked to your Strength stat. Instead, you should carefully consider the value of items compared to their weight, especially if you're looting items explicitly to sell.
As an example, in one early-game chest, there are six gold coins alongside a weapon with a weight of 12 and a value of four gold coins. Picking up the coins, which are weightless, is much preferred to weighing yourself down with an item worth fewer than five coins.
While things change as you level up, early-game items should be worth more than their weight, ideally more than double, as a minimum requirement to be collected.
Know Where To Sell Your Goods
Speaking of collecting loot, once your pack is full of items, you're going to need to find a merchant to sell these items to. However, you can't just sell any item to any merchant, as certain vendors will only accept the items they deal in.
Thus, you should visit stores that specialize in the goods you want to sell, as you'll also earn more gold on average by selling items to the appropriate people.
Furthermore, stealing isn't very profitable until you join the Thieves Guild, which gives you access to a network of merchants who can accept your stolen goods, as honest merchants will not.
Lead Your Enemies
You can lead enemies to guards and other allies to receive help from them, which can be especially helpful in the early sections of the game when you don't have any good weapons or gear yet.
Keep your distance and kite enemies by remaining within their view, while carefully backing away and creating enough space between you that even enemy lunge attacks will miss. Bring these enemies within view of allies, guards, or other NPCs, and usually, they'll join the fight and come to your aid.
It takes some practice, but you'll get the hang of it.
Don't Be Afraid To Choose The Atronach Birth Sign
The Atronach Birth Sign might sound like a massively risky undertaking, but losing the ability to regenerate your Magicka naturally isn't as restrictive as you might imagine if you know how to get around it.
The Atronach:
- Increases Magicka by 150 points
- Gives a 50 percent chance of Spell Absorption
- Magicka Regeneration is halted
The Arena's Basin Of Renewal alleviates the burden of non-regenerating Magicka, as interacting with this item after an Arena fight will completely restore your HP and Magicka. The only drawback to this method is that you have to finish an Arena fight before using it, but luckily, this isn't too hard, especially if you've finished the questline and can select an easy opponent.
This same effect can also be achieved by visiting Wayshrines.
Furthermore, you'll find (and can craft) many potions throughout the game that restore your Magicka, so there are ways to get around The Atronach's major disadvantage. Plus, it's hard to deny that 50 percent spell absorption is one of the best starting effects in the game.
Join Factions Early
CloseJoining the various factions quickly is one of the best ways to make gold in the early game, as each group, like the Fighter's Guild, gives access to plenty of sellable loot to grind up a bankroll and increase your Mercantile skill.
Just by joining a group like the Fighter's Guild or Mage's Guild, you can safely loot any items or weapons lying around without penalty, giving you a steady stream of loot to sell for gold.
If you're more interested in working for your gold, then you can join the Dark Brotherhood or the Thieves' Guild to get out there and murder or steal to your heart's content.
Just don't fast travel to a city gate with a high bounty and stolen goods, lest a somehow omnipotent guard stop you immediately.
