No Man's Sky's Redemption Arc Is Complete, As Anniversary Update Brings In The Most Players Since Launch

No Man's Sky developer Hello Games has done a terrific job over the past nine years, turning an absolute disaster into one of the industry's most beloved titles with free update upon free update. Back when No Man's Sky first launched, Hello Games was seen as one of the industry's biggest villains, but you now have people pledging their firstborns to co-founder Sean Murray for even the sneakest of peeks at Light No Fire.
It's safe to say that the studio has won back the trust of fans, but it wasn't until the release of No Man's Sky's latest update that you could claim the game's redemption arc was finally complete. Voyagers is the latest in a long line of impressive updates to No Man's Sky, letting players create their own custom starships, exit your ship into space whenever you like, and a lot more.
No Man's Sky Latest Patch Has Caused Highest Spike In Players Since Launch
However, unlike previous updates, Voyagers was apparently impressive enough to cause a gigantic spike to No Man's Sky's playerbase. Over the course of the Voyagers update and subsequent patches, No Man's Sky's player count has risen from a 24-hour peak of around 9,000, all the way up to a whopping 98,285 earlier today, almost cracking the 100,000 player mark.
It's an extremely impressive number of players, and is actually the highest spike that the game has seen since launch. No Man's Sky has only ever cracked the post-launch 90,000 player barrier once before in its entire history, and that was all the way back in July 2018 when No Man's Sky NEXT was pushed out.
It's a strong testament to just how the public perception of No Man's Sky has shifted in recent years, and if Hello Games plans to keep supporting the game even when Light No Fire is ready and waiting, then it feels like the game could continue its upwards trajectory and return to the levels of hype that we saw back at launch.
