When you're traveling in the vast and unforgiving universe of No Man's Sky, you have to use everything you can find. Survival is a matter of using your wits and resources to ensure you've got the resources to carry on, and there's no better way to do that than to have a farm.

PostsThere are many tasks to farming, but one of the most important steps is fertilizing the soil, and there's no better way to fertilize than with poop. Or in the parlance of No Man's Sky, a little substance called Faecium. This guide will go over how to find, collect, and use Faecium to its fullest.
What Is Faecium?
Faecium is a harvestable agricultural resource in No Man’s Sky. It’s typically used to create cultivating chambers in order to grow other harvestable agrarian resources, making it very important in agriculture.
Although typically associated with farming, Faecium is also used to refine several resources that travelers might find helpful on their journey, so it's always useful to have a healthy supply of Faecium handy.
Where To Find Faecium
Faecium can be found in several sources, but by far the best source of Faecium is harvesting the appropriately-named Gutrot Flower. As the name suggests, the Gutrot Flower is a foul-smelling plant the aroma of which entices the Gek while discouraging most other species. Gutrot Flowers can occasionally be found on planets, but is better found on the Anomaly or by hiring a farmer.
The best way to acquire a Gutrot Flower is to hire a farmer for your base and then purchase seeds from them. Alternatively, you can purchase the Gutrot Flower crafting recipe from the Construction Research Station on the Anomaly for three Salvaged Data.
Once planted, a Gutrot Flower will provide 25 Faecium every four hours. It's recommended to plant several Gutrot Flowers to ensure you have a good supply.
Faecium can also be found as a secondary byproduct from carbon-based plants, found in mineable resources on marshy planets, or found as junk in damaged machinery.
Local fauna can also produce limited amounts of Faecium. Feeding creature pellets to any local fauna will eventually cause them to produce Faecium. This can be useful for finding the initial 10 Faecium required to create a Cultivating Chamber (the recipe for which will be discussed below).
Sources Of Faecium Summary
In summary, Faecium can be found from these sources.
- Gutrot Flowers (25 Faecium every four hours)
- Byproducts from some plants
- Mineable resources on Marshy planets
- Junk from Damaged Machinery
- Local Fauna (feed them creature pellets and wait)
You can create Gutrot Flowers if you have sufficient Faecium on hand. This can let you quickly create a large field of Gutrot Flowers by simply reinvesting your harvested Faecium into more Gutrot Flowers.

PostsWhat Is Faecium Used For?
Faecium is an important resource for agricultural pursuits. Faecium is required for creating Cultivation Chambers either in an on-planet base or aboard your interstellar Freighter. It's also required for creating the Livestock Unit, Terrariums, and making Lubricant, an important product for more expensive craftable items.
Faecium can also be used to refine certain resources, and even used in cooking. Below are all recipes that require Faecium in No Man's Sky.
