Earlier today, it was revealed that Nintendo and toy-manufacturer Hasbro have teamed up to produce new toys based on The Legend of Zelda, revealing that it will begin with a line of three six-inch scale figures that will be shown off at Comic Con later this year.

Nintendo and Hasbro’s deal is described in the announcement as a “multi-year collaboration”, so it will definitely extend to more than just three figures, leaving many to wonder what else Hasbro will conjure up, with Nintendo’s permission, of course.

The Legend Of Zelda MTG Sets Just Got More Likely

One of the leading guesses appears to be Magic: The Gathering. For those that don’t know, Hasbro is the owner of Wizards of the Coast, the maker of Magic: The Gathering, and the game has been getting more into crossovers recently with its Universes Beyond series.

For example, Magic: The Gathering’s crossover with Final Fantasy was one of MTG’s most successful sets of all time, and it’s seen success with Fallout too. I can only imagine that Hasbro is currently salivating at the idea of a full Legend of Zelda Universes Beyond set, or even just a series of Secret Lairs to capitalize on the collaboration.

That seems to be the consensus on the Magic: The Gathering subreddit at least, which has had many fans reacting to the collaboration. Some reckon a partnership could happen to coincide with the live-action movie that’s coming, while others are dreading how much Wizards of the Coast may milk this one if it does come to be.

Personally, I don't think it's a bad idea. The Legend of Zelda has a very storied history, just like Final Fantasy, and has plenty of games and art styles to drum up inspiration for Commander Decks and plenty of sets. I'd honestly go bananas if Wind Waker was ever explored.

Of course, nothing is confirmed just yet. Nintendo can be a bit of a stickler when it comes to outside companies having a hold of its IP, and Hasbro has only mentioned toys right now, so it’s possible that it may just never happen.

That being said, I’m sure someone at Hasbro has already floated the idea past the bigwigs, given how successful MTG’s foray into gaming has been these past few years, and you don’t get much bigger than The Legend of Zelda.
