The first Epic Mickey is getting a "faithful remake" for Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, and Xbox Series titled "Epic Mickey: Rebrushed", and it's coming at some point in 2024.

February's Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase just dropped and featured a ton of third-party titles that are going to be coming to the Switch at some point this year, such as Grounded, Pentiment, and Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance. One of the biggest surprises of the whole direct was Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, a remake of the 2010 Wii classic that fans have been requesting for a very long time.

The trailer for Rebrushed was fairly brief, but it did seem to show that Mickey can now aim his paintbrush and thinner without motion controls, something that wasn't an option in the original game. That definitely seems to be the case considering Epic Mickey: Rebrushed was later confirmed to be coming to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

Epic Mickey: Rebrushed isn't just getting a graphical update, though. Following the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, it was revealed that the remake gives Mickey several new abilities, such as dashing, ground-pounding, and sprinting. It's not clear if there's more to the remake than some additional moves, but considering most fans would have been happy with a straight port, it's a very interesting bonus that should alleviate some of the original game's slowness.

It was also revealed that Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is being developed by Purple Lamp Studios, the team behind the most recent SpongeBob games. The Cosmic Shake was an absolute treat for fans of Battle for Bikini Bottom, so I can't wait to see what they do with this.

The road to this Nintendo Direct has been a little weirder than usual. Although it still happened in February like it does every year, the Direct was seemingly meant to debut last week, before reportedly getting pushed back to make room for Xbox's big announcement about multiplatform releases.

While a lot of what was featured in today's Nintendo Direct managed to stay a surprise, a few details were leaked ahead of time by reliable leaker Pyoro. Before the Direct was even confirmed, Pyoro teased that it was a Partner Direct instead of a regular one, which ended up being true, and then teased a bunch of games that were going to be featured, such as Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, and Endless Ocean.
