Summary

  • Nintendo's Joy-Con charging stand went on sale this week, but the accessory's launch didn't exactly go to plan.
  • The stand was accidentally listed for $0.00 and quickly sold out once word started to spread.
  • Nintendo has been canceling orders but hasn't yet corrected the error on the stand's store page.

Nintendo revealed a nifty new Joy-Con charging stand earlier this year which finally went on sale this week. Something appears to have gone wrong on Nintendo's end though as the new stand was listed for $0.00. Once word that Nintendo was giving away a brand new Switch accessory for free started to spread, chaos ensued, and the stand sold out almost immediately.

Nintendeal alerted people to the pricing mistake and less than ten minutes later, the stand had sold out. The account jokingly asked who claimed 999 of them. Joking aside, since this wouldn't have been a high-demand product without the error, there was likely no limit on how many you could buy. Some claimed to have bagged one, and if you were one of those people, I've got some bad news.

Unfortunately, Nintendo will not be honoring its unintentional giveaway and sending its new Joy-Con charging stand out to thousands of Switch owners for free. Acting quickly after noticing the mistake, possibly when someone at Nintendo HQ wondered why sales of the stand were inexplicably blowing up, those who "bought" the stand started receiving messages telling them they had been issued a refund. Well, there was technically no refund to issue, but all of the orders have been canceled.

Nintendo Accidentally Listed Its New Charging Stand For Free

You Really Should Have Known Your Orders Wouldn't Be Honored

If you want the charging stand for its $30 RRP, you'll have to look for it elsewhere for the time being. Whatever the problem was that resulted in the stand being listed for free hasn't been fixed yet. Its price is still $0.00, but you can no longer buy it. A link to the stand's store page has even been appearing elsewhere on the Nintendo site with a "free" tag on it. Considering this is Nintendo, you really should have known you weren't going to get something for free, let alone a brand new $30 accessory.

Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Charging Stand

Nintendo's two-way charging stand is an accessory that does exactly what its name implies. Click your Joy-Con into place on the stand and they'll charge while not in use. Also compatible with Nintendo's novelty Joy-Con designs such as the NES controllers.

While I'm sure someone at Nintendo will be getting yelled at today, mistakes like these happen all the time, even to Nintendo. One of the bigger pricing mishaps that springs to mind is Nintendo's Mario Red OLED Switch being listed for a single penny on Amazon. I assumed anyone who managed to buy one had their orders canceled and were issued refunds, but I'd love to find out if there are people out there who only paid a penny for their OLED Switch.
