Among the many announcements and reveals made during Friday's long-awaited Nintendo Direct, including a December release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, as well as word of a new Fire Emblem game, was a re-commitment from Nintendo to its Amiibo line of collectibles.

Indeed, it was announced that there will be new Amiibo figures centered around Super Mario Galaxy, as well as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, along with two dedicated to Kirby Air Riders. They're pretty detailed, certainly bigger than what Amiibo typically look like, and they'll also cost a lot more than what you're used to. A LOT more.

There Was Once A Time When Amiibo Were Actually Cheap

Following Friday's Nintendo Direct, the ever trusty Wario64 began sharing links to the various retailers that will sell the Amiibo, and, well, things were potentially a lot better when we didn't know how much we'd need to fork over.

Your eyes are not deceiving you, and those Kirby Amiibo will indeed cost $49.99. When the collectibles do release, it'll eclipse the Street Fighter line for the most expensive Amiibo on record, not counting "rare" or hard to find figurines that have inflated in price on the secondary market.

It was just a month ago that hardcore Amiibo fans were second guessing whether they wanted to continue with the hobby after Nintendo's price increases came for the figures. For those who are still interested in collecting Amiibo, it might be worth waiting a bit to see how the market responds to these new high-priced figures. That's because the Street Fighter Amiibo line quickly found itself in clearance bins after low sales.

The real Amiibo were the friends we made along the way, right?
