The actor Nicky Katt has passed away at the age of 54. Katt, who was best known for a long line of supporting roles, appeared in films such as Dazed and Confused, School of Rock, The Limey, and Sin City.

However, the gaming community would know him from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 - The Sith Lords. Here, Katt played Atton Rand, one of the first companions you meet and a compelling Star Wars character in his own right.

Actor Nicky Katt Dies Aged 54

News of Katt's passing was reported by Deadline over the weekend. Here, a cause of death is not confirmed, although Variety reports that he died on April 8, last Tuesday.

Alongside his numerous supporting roles in various films, often working with directors such as Christopher Nolan, Richard Linklater, and Robert Rodriguez, he also appeared in the US drama Boston Public for two years, and had roles in Friends and King of the Hill.

Spoilers for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 - The Sith Lords are mentioned in the next paragraph.

Fans of the KOTOR games will remember his voice from the sequel, KOTOR 2. As Atton Rand, he's one of the first characters you run into, as he helps the player escape Peragus and then goes on to join the party as a companion. Here, he is initially presented as your standard Han Solo-esque loveable rogue, but he can eventually reveal his dark past, in which he worked as a Jedi hunter for the Sith. From this, you discover that he is Force sensitive, and you can help him become a Jedi - or fall completely to the Dark Side.

At the time, reviewers praised KOTOR 2 for its voice performances, as it was conversations with characters like Atton which carried the game and its darker themes compared to the previous entry. Atton is particularly quotable in the game, and I'm sure many who have played it will read "pure pazaak" in Katt's voice.

If you've ever wanted to try KOTOR 2, it's available on a range of platforms. You can pick it up on Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC, and even mobile devices. However, most fans will tell you to stick with PC so you can play it with the restored content mod, which includes a bunch of content that Obsidian didn't have time to include.
