The ‘Jackpot’ line is one that’s been part of Devil May Cry since the first game, and it's the way Dante closes off most heavy-duty missions. The previous anime adaptation of the series also had the iconic line, but only once; Netflix decided to include the phrase a few more times than we anticipated.

Used to finish off enemies, as a wave of nostalgia, or just because it sounds cool, the ‘Jackpot’ line is everywhere. Here, we find every time it is said in the first season of the Devil May Cry series, which character said it, and why.

Dante Says ‘Jackpot’ When He First Appears

Just before facing Plasma disguised as a baby in Episode 1, Dante dispatches several demons reminiscent of the basic enemies from Devil May Cry 3. They are notably weaker than other demons, since Dante can kill them by using regular pistol ammo.

Dante says ‘Jackpot’ just before landing a trickshot involving acrobatic jumps and high precision. This established the line as something Dante says when doing something with high skill, while also serving as a nostalgic reminder of how fond Dante is of that line in the games.

Dante Says ‘Jackpot’ Just Before Falling For Lady’s Trap

In Episode 2, a group of mercenaries is hired to get Dante’s necklace, but they all fail. In reality, it was all a distraction so Lady could swoop in and take the necklace for herself, luring Dante to her forces and trapping him in the process.

Part of the trap involved Dante thinking he had the upper hand, storming into a warehouse and screaming ‘Jackpot,’ clearly thinking he had found his prey. This is the only time the line is said when no guns are involved, although Dante has used it in similar ways in the games.

Dante Says ‘Jackpot’ When He Is About To Shoot The White Rabbit

Episode 3 marks the third and last time Dante says ‘Jackpot’ on the show, and just like in the previous episode, it serves as a failed celebration. At the end of a high-speed chase, Dante jumps from his crumbling bike towards the Rabbit’s truck, aiming his gun at him and exclaiming ‘Jackpot.’

At this moment, the bomb implant Lady injected him with triggers, exploding a big part of his face and leaving him unconscious. It's unclear if this was part of the Rabbit’s plan, or if he could have survived a bullet to the head.

Lady Says ‘Jackpot’ After Shooting The White Rabbit

At the climax of the season, the deformed White Rabbit proves to be too much for Dante to handle, even with his Devil Trigger powers. Just as all seemed lost, Lady takes aim with her final bullet, firing at the White Rabbit’s chest contraption and weakening him heavily.

After the shot, Lady grins and exclaims ‘Jackpot,’ something she took from Dante after hearing him say it in Episode 2. While a great way to finish the season, Lady should practice her line delivery: you’re supposed to say the line just before firing, not after.

‘Jackpot’ Is Said Four Times

In total, the ‘Jackpot’ line is said four times in the entirety of Season 1: three times by Dante and one final time by Lady. It's said more often than in other media, the previous anime included, but it seems the team wanted to establish the iconic line for audiences new to the series.

However, the line is present several times in Devil May Cry 5, with Dante, Nero, and Vergil all able to say it during combos. Dante himself says it twice in cutscenes: once at the start of the game, and once at the end.
