NetherRealm Studios has revealed several big improvements that are being made to Mortal Kombat 1's Invasions mode, including finally removing super armour from most enemies.

It's fair to say that, despite praise going towards the gameplay, roster and story, Mortal Kombat 1 has had a pretty rough time of it since it launched, with fans expressing disappointment in a number of the game's modes and features. One of the modes that has received the most criticism is Invasions, the board-game style campaign that's somewhere between Towers of Time and the Krypt.

NetherRealm also just confirmed that season two of Invasions is going to be themed around Nitara, confirming earlier leaks and teases that it had shared.

Although Invasions mostly just has you walking around a map and fighting opponents, a lot of players have found that several of its unique gameplay elements drag the experience down, like every enemy having super armour, modifiers that make some matches nearly unplayable (looking at you smoke screen), and an overly slow pace.

NetherRealm has already made some steps towards improving Invasions mode, such as adding the ability to run through the map in the recent Halloween update, but it's looking to even further for season two. As revealed in the Omni-Man and Tremor Kombat Kast, there are several key changes coming to Invasions that address some of the biggest issues that fans have had with it.

Let's start off with the big one - super armour. From season two onwards, super armour will only be applied to Invasions' boss characters, meaning every other enemy can be fought like you would in a normal match of Mortal Kombat 1. That means players can actually learn combos and strategies for the roster without just resorting to uppercutting when the enemy turns blue. This was easily one of the things that players liked the least about Invasions, so it should make it a bit more popular.

That's not the only change, though. NetherRealm also confirmed during the stream that Talismans will now only be awarded from chests and not from fights, meaning players won't spend ages digging through their inventory to discard them after a few battles. Modifiers are also being turned down a bit, which I presume is in response to smoke screen basically making matches play like a slideshow.

NetherRealm mentioned a bunch of other tweaks that are being made to Invasions for season two and, on paper, they all sound like they'll significantly improve the mode and give players a reason to jump in beyond getting all of the seasonal outfits and colour schemes for the roster.
