The need to find rare or obscure crafting materials is a given in a game like Monster Hunter Wilds. That process is a series staple. Sharp Fang is one such material, and it's not found among the larger monsters you'll slay during the story campaign. It's not hard to find them, no matter where you are in the game, but you do need to know where to look.

The more environments you unlock in Wilds, the greater your sources of Sharp Fang. Better yet, the more you progress, the easier it is to farm. Here are all the ways to get your hands on it.

Where To Get Sharp Fang

Sharp Fang is a monster material you can carve from three types of small monsters: Bird Wyverns, Leviathans, and a specific Construct-type. Like all other monster materials, you aren't guaranteed to get Sharp Fang whenever you carve a small monster. Thankfully, there are enough little guys around, so building a sizable collection shouldn't take too long.

Here are all the monsters you can carve Sharp Fang from:

Of the six monsters you can get Sharp Fang from, we recommend primarily sourcing the items from either Tailoths or Piragills.

First, both are plentiful in their particular habitats. They also drop additional materials for use in other crafts: Tailoths providing Earth Crystaland Piragill's providing Parashrooms as target rewards.

Second, you can find them in relatively low-threat areas, meaning you won't need to worry as much about a large monster barging in while farming them.

How To Use Sharp Fang

Sharp Fang is a required material for two pieces of early, Low Rank armors:

  • Talioth Vambraces (arms armor) need one Sharp Fang in addition to its other requirements
  • Chatacabra Coil (waist armor) needs one Sharp Fang in addition to its other requirements

The Chatacabra Vambraces are the better pickup between the two, thanks to the stack of Speed Eating they provide. You're likely to be healing a lot as you learn how to fight the many beasts in Wilds, and Speed Eating cuts the time it takes to drink Potions and eat other health recovery itemsby a lot.

The Leap of Faith Skill granted by the Talioth Vambraces is nice to have, as it allows you to dive-evade when facing monsters and makes that evade distance longer. Evasion is another key skill while learning unfamiliar monsters, but one that becomes less important as your knowledge grows.

How To Farm Sharp Fang When You Reach High Rank

At theend of the Low Rank story campaign, after taking on the hunt named "Lured by Abundance," the various regions of Monster Hunter Wilds will immediately set themselves to High Rank.

High Rank monsters have a new loot pool separate from those of Low Rank. There is no way to downgrade exploration zones from High Rank to Low or vice versa.

In order to hunt Low Rank monstersafter you reach High Rank, you need to instead talk to Alma and start a Low Rank (three-star or below) Optional Quest in your chosen region.

From there, simply ignore the quest's target monster, clear out all the Sharp Fang monsters, and then select Return to Quest from the Missions & Quests menu. You'll keep all the items you collected and won't be forced to fully complete the quest.
