The Rathian is a classic monster that has shown up in every game in the series, and it makes a return in Wilds after you finish the main story. However, no matter how old this monster is, fighting it will always bring surprises, and here we'll tell you all about it.

Rathian - Strengths And Weaknesses

Weak Points

  • Mouth (Breakable)
  • Wings (Breakable twice)
  • Tail (Severable)
  • Legs

Resistant Points

  • Torso

Elemental/Ailment Weakness

  • Thunder
  • Dragon

Elemental/Ailment Resistance

Immune to Fire-type damage.

Best Weapon Damage

  • Slashing
  • Bludgeoning

Rathian's weak points are its mouth, wings, legs, and tail; depending on which weapon you use, you might have easier access to the upper parts, but at the very least its head and legs should be easy to break. Slashing and Bludgeoning damage will work similarly, which is always good, as it'll give you more options.

On the elemental side, you must avoid using Fire-based weaponry, and instead, Thunder and Dragon-type damage will help significantly more to hit Rathian where it hurts.

Best Equipment To Fight Rathian

Best Recommended Weapons

  • Tonitrus Clairblade (Rey Dau - Long Sword)
  • Kuara Clairsword (Rey Dau - Sword And Shield)
  • G Resounding Galahad (Guardian Arkveld - Hunting Horn)

Best Recommended Armor

  • Quematrice
  • Yian Kut-Ku
  • Rompopolo

While we include the maximum upgrades of each weapon we recommend, remember that any stage of those weapon's lines will work.

For your weapons, The Tonitrus Clairblade, the Kuara Clairsword, or the G. Resounding Galahad should work perfectly, as they will hit hard both on the weapon damage side and also the elemental damage side.

On the defensive side, both the Quematrice and Yian Kut-Ku armor sets should protect you more than fine from any elemental Fire-type damage; however, if you want to protect yourself from Poison, then you need to craft the Rompopolo armor.

Rathian - Fight Breakdown And Moves

The first thing to keep in mind about the Rathian is its size; whenever it turns around, it will do a tail swipe that will knock you off, and maybe even kill you, if you're not paying enough attention. The other thing to keep in mind it's its poison.

The Rathian will take flight, and when it does, you need to not stay in front of this monster; it will do a tail swipe that not only hits hard, but also poisons you, and you won't like it. On top of that, it will also shoot fireballs up to three times out of its mouth, and that can be a killer combo.

Overall, flank the monster, stay away from it when it goes aerial, and keep hitting it wherever you can until it's done for good.
