Summary
- There hasn't been any new news for Monolith's Wonder Woman project, and there seems to be a reason why.
- Greg Miller, a former IGN employee and current podcaster, revealed that an insider told him the game was "troubled."
- Wonder Woman was initially announced in 2021 and was set to make use of the Nemesis System.
It's been a long time since gamers have heard anything about Monolith Productions' Wonder Woman project. It turns out that there may be a troubling reason why that may be. That is if word from former IGN employee and current Kinda Funny host Greg Miller is to be believed.
In an episode dedicated to Summer Game Fest predictions, Miller reported that an insider had told him within the last year that the Wonder Woman game was "troubled." Here are his full words:
Here you go, you want it? You want the exclusive? I’ll give you my ‘Jeff Grubb’ information. In the past year – cause I’ll leave it ambiguous – I have talked to an insider, who was like, 'This game’s troubled.' That’s it, that’s all I’ll say. So I don’t hold out hope that it’s in a place to show something.
And here is the video version:
For those who are unfamiliar with the project, Wonder Woman was initially announced back at the 2021 edition of The Game Awards. The reveal took the form of a 40-second CGI trailer that was narrated by Hippolyta, Wonder Woman's mother. Outside of sharing that, Monolith Productions, the developers behind the Middle Earth series, would be taking on the project, not much else was shown, and, in the time since, things have remained radio silent.

We know nothing about Wonder Woman aside from the fact it uses the Nemesis system, but that's enough to get me excited
PostsA 2021 press release following the trailer did confirm that it would be an open-world game and would make use of the Nemesis System made famous by those Lord of the Rings titles and also patented by Warner Bros. The plot synopsis given was the following:
The single-player open-world action game will introduce an original story set in the DC Universe and allow players to become Diana of Themyscira in the fight to unite her Amazon family and the humans from the modern world.
In 2022, a job advertisement suggested that the game could feature "procedural storytelling," though that likely had more to do with the Nemesis System and its ability to create narratives based on the enemies involved. A year later, in 2023, there was a fear that the game had shifted to a live service title, like Warner Bros' other DC-based titles, including Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. However, that was quickly debunked by Warner Bros themselves.
A Warner Bros. spokesperson told IGN in a statement:
Wonder Woman is a single-player action-adventure game set in a dynamic open-world. This third person experience will allow players to become Diana of Themyscira and introduce an original story set in the DC Universe, while also featuring the Nemesis System. Wonder Woman is not being designed as a live service,"
April of this year marked an entire 850 days, or two years and four months since the game's reveal. Nothing has been shown since, and that number has only grown. With Summer Game Fest on the horizon, and predictions slowly filtering in, it seems like gamers can cross off Wonder Woman from their lists. In the interim, MultiVersus does have a playable Wonder Woman as well as a hilarious potshot at the flop that was Black Adam.
