It should come as no surprise that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has done well. It's the first Call of Duty release under the Microsoft banner, so we know it was going to be different in many ways. Perhaps the biggest difference is the game's launch on Xbox Game Pass, making it one of the biggest yearly launches available on the subscription service.

The game itself has received critical acclaim for its fresh campaign and new multiplayer features, but the Game Pass launch strategy that Microsoft probably played a big hand in paid off for all parties as well. This was confirmed by CEO Satya Nadella, who stated that Black Ops 6 was the biggest Call of Duty launch of all time, and also helped garner the most Game Pass subscriptions in one day.

A Great First Step For COD's Microsoft Era

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella – who enjoyed a 63 percent pay increase while over 1,900 employees lost their jobs – addressed this on a recent investor call. He explained that Black Ops 6 received the highest day-one players of any game in the series, which in turn propelled the highest number of subscriptions in a day for Game Pass (thanks, Insider Gaming).

"Last week’s launch of Black Ops 6 was the biggest Call of Duty release ever, setting a record for day one players as well as Game Pass subscriber adds on launch day," said Nadella. "And unit sales on PlayStation and Steam were also up over 60% year-over-year. This speaks to our strategy of meeting gamers where they are by enabling them to play more games across the screens they spend their time on."

The Black Ops 6 campaign is considered by many to be the best one since the original Modern Warfare 2 – and that's saying a lot. The multiplayer has introduced some great new features, like Omnimovement, which has made games more engaging, and the Zombies mode has seen a fresh new take as well.

Apart from Microsoft, fans seem to be having a great time with the game as well. While it's expected that some people will unlock late game stuff much sooner than others, one dedicated player has put in 57 hours to be the first one to unlock the Dark Matter camo in Black Ops 6's multiplayer. The streamer had to go through a number of challenges in order to unlock this late game camo, not only putting in the hours, but also showcasing their skill.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 90s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower. With a mind-bending narrative, and unbound by the rules of engagement, this is signature Black Ops.
