Metaphor ReFantazio Will Take As Long To Beat As Persona 5

Summary
- Ever since Metaphor ReFantazio was revealed, fans have wondered if it could live up to Persona 5's infamously long length.
- Well, according to the game's director, Metaphor will indeed take as long to beat as Persona 5 did.
- I really don't know if that's a good thing, I kind of wanted to see the outside world in October.
Metaphor ReFantazio's director has confirmed that the game will be as long as Persona 5, meaning players can expect close to 100 hours on their first playthrough.
Even though Persona 5 is generally regarded as one of the best and most influential RPGs of the past decade, there are a few elements of it that are a little divisive. I could talk about how weird it is for a high school student to romance adults or rage about how poorly everyone treats Ryuji, but there's one that stands above the rest - how bloody long it takes to finish.

Posts 1Persona 5 is notorious for how much of a commitment it is just to see the main story through, with How Long To Beat listing the average completion time as an eye-watering 97 hours. That's not even counting the 110 it takes for extra content, and the whopping 170 hours it'll take to 100 percent complete the game. Well, it looks like history is about to repeat itself.
Dear God, Metaphor Is Going To Big
As pointed out by IcePopsicleDragon on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, Spanish website Vandal recently had the chance to interview Metaphor ReFantazio's director, Katsura Hashino. One of the questions that Hashino was asked is whether Metaphor will be as long as Persona 5, something that fans have wondered since the game was revealed.
In response, Hashino confirmed that Metaphor will be around the same length as Persona 5, which means players are in for another 100-hour RPG that can stretch to nearly 200 if you're aiming to do everything. Surprisingly, Hashino admitted that the team originally thought it was going to "be maybe a little bit shorter", but that they ended up adding enough content to guarantee it'll reach the same length.
Persona 5 was a very bulky game, a very robust game, and Metaphor: ReFantazio will be able to catch up to that and reach [its length] as well. - Katsura Hashino
Alongside confirming that you'll be using up all of October to beat Metaphor, Hashino also noted that the team worked hard to give players reasons to return to the game once they've finished it. We don't know what any of the post-game content is just yet, but it sounds like Persona 5 was just an endurance warm-up.
