Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is the next iteration of Metal Gear Solid 3, now recreated with Unreal Engine 5 for modern hardware. It was a marvel of a game when it launched in 2004, one of the most highly acclaimed of all time, with this journey taking Solid Snake to the fictional rough jungle environment in the Soviet Union, where stealth and survival elements went hand-in-hand.

Though it's tough to find other games that can match exactly what Metal Gear Solid Delta is going for, some out there do share key characteristics, whether it be their settings, mechanics, or other aspects of their design. Scope out some of these games below that combine survival, story, and stealth just as solid as MGS Delta, pun intended.

While Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell series is a better match for the stealth mechanics in Metal Gear, Ghost Recon Breakpoint is much more in tune with the jungle environments and survival gameplay style of Snake Eater, with a more expansive open-world environment. Here, you're part of a special forces battalion known as the 'Ghosts,' tasked with going after the rogue Lieutenant Colonel Cole D. Walker.

The setting takes place on the fictional island archipelago known as Auroa, which is owned by Jace Skell, the CEO of Skell Technology, and trouble is afoot there. You'll have to use your environment and gadgets to your advantage to try and eliminate enemies stealthily, and there are a variety of fun traversal methods in this open-world setting, where you can also have up to three friends join you.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is highly underrated, and an equally immersive survival and stealth sim set in the scenic wonders of James Cameron's Pandora rather than a Cold War-era Soviet Jungle. Your enemies here are instead the invading forces on Pandora, the RDA, and all their advanced weaponry and machinery, whom you must stop as they continue to devastate the environment.

Frontiers of Pandora takes you to the Western Frontier, where you'll discover new Na'vi clans and new areas never before seen in the films, with the lore also tying into the movies. The gameplay is FPS-based with stealth mechanics and plenty of survival craft elements, also featuring incredible traversal around the gorgeous Pandoran landscapes, including having the iconic Ikrans as flyable mounts.

In the sequel to the most stunning and confusing game ever created, Death Stranding 2, Kojima takes the creative genius of the original and only further expands on the weirdness of the characters and lore while reinvigorating the mechanics, particularly in the combat department.

Combat in Death Stranding 2 feels closer to the Metal Gear series, especially with all the new, unique weapons Sam is given. The climbing and traversal physics are also elevated by music specifically programmed to change depending on the path you take, delivering incredibly intricate sound design. The BT stealth remains as tense as ever, you can skip boss fights, and there's even a character, Neil, who resembles Snake from MGS.

Ubisoft sure loves the jungle survival genre, doesn't it? Another offering that would serve as a nice companion to Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is Far Cry 3. Though you're not special forces or a protagonist skilled in espionage, you'll still have to survive in an open-world island environment as a tourist whose friends are taken hostage by a psychotic drug trafficker pirate, Vaas Montenegro.

Far Cry 3 is set in the fictional Rook Islands, which you'll traverse by car, foot, and other modes of transportation, like hang gliders. You must also hunt various species of animals on the island to make upgrades, and the story also follows a rebel indigenous group on the island known as the Rakyat. The stakes are pretty high, and you'll need to rely a lot on stealth when clearing out areas.

Grounded 2 is a full-fledged survival game, which sees you as a shrunken protagonist having to survive all the bugs and insects within the grassy fields of a public park, though together with a team of friends. The jungle in Snake Eater is home to a lot of different animals and insects, and here, you'll be mighty tiny compared to their size as you try and fight them off, spiders included.

This game has your standard survival fare of base-building as well as a food and resource system, which, of course, are all bug-themed. And what's new in Grounded 2 is that you can actually hatch your own mounts to ride, which are called Buggies, such as Red Soldier Ants and Orb Weaver Spiders.

Change out the '60s Cold War Soviet jungle environment for a futuristic post-apocalyptic Soviet hellscape with the FPS survival game Metro Exodus. Metro Exodus is the most sprawling and visually striking game in the Metro series, where you must venture through Moscow's metro system out into the wasteland, surviving radioactive mutated creatures and hostile groups of people.

As with previous games, some of the survival elements include consistently changing out the filters for your gas mask, fixing your mask up, as well as scavenging for supplies and ammunition. One detail you may appreciate, if you're a fan of Kojima's attention to detail in the MGS series, is that you can use Metro Exodus' day and night cycle and dynamic weather system to your advantage for stealth.

If you prefer a change of scenery from MGS Delta's jungle to a desert wasteland, there's always the Mad Max video game, one of the most criminally underrated action-adventure survival games of all time. The game starts with a beaten and left-for-dead Mad Max Rockatansky, who slowly works his way to liberate the wasteland from the forces of Scabrous Scrotus and build out his Magnum Opus vehicle.

The combat is satisfyingly brutal with the hand-to-hand beat 'em up style and parry system of the Batman: Arkham games, and the vehicular combat is equally riveting, with your car also getting harpoon guns courtesy of your companion Chumbucket to take down towers and other gates. In addition to that, you'll have to gather water to fill up your canteen, and also gasoline to fill your car, as well as collect scrap for upgrades.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater may be set during the Cold War, but this survival game will take you back ten million years into the past. Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey sees you playing a hominid descendant of humankind, where your goal is to survive and evolve your lineage across generations, beginning in the Neogene period in Africa.

You learned about evolution in biology class, but this gem of a game from former Assassin's Creed creative director Patrice Désilets lets you play out evolutionary history for yourself. As hominids, you must survive against deadly predators and hunt and gather resources, with higher intelligence also developing as your clan evolves. There's even a detailed dopamine and hysteria system to maintain.

The Last of Us Part 2 is a graphically impressive and immersive sequel to Naughty Dog's story-driven post-apocalyptic game that redefined the horror genre, and it returns more stealth and survival-driven than ever. The combat will require sneaking through lots of foliage, especially when you arrive in the Seattle area, and it's super brutal and realistic in its gore and animations.

As Ellie, you'll go on the warpath to find Abby Anderson after she killed Joel out of revenge, taking out her fellow WLF teammates along the way. Then, you'll also play Abby's journey in a protagonist switch to get her survival tale. There are so many Metal Gear-like sections where you maneuver around the environment, figuring out the best methods to take out enemies. A vital mechanic is also salvaging resources to craft items and upgrade weapons.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider probably comes closest to achieving the atmosphere and gameplay of Snake Eater, with Lara Croft having to cover herself in mud to maneuver around the Trinity hostiles in the Peruvian jungle, as well as climb treetops and face off with jaguars. This has the most down-and-dirty stealth combat system of the trilogy, and it's yet again a true survival tale. Shadow is part of the Survival Trilogy, after all.

This third installment of the rebooted Tomb Raider saga sees Lara Croft and Jonah take on their highest stakes yet – preventing the oncoming apocalypse linked to the Box of Ix Chel. As you race against Trinity to secure it, the supernatural and horror elements are also definitely upped the most here. And the adventure is filled with intense set pieces, challenging side tombs, and stunning underwater sections.
