Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Has Only Managed 22 Percent Of The Players MGS 5 Did At Launch

Summary
- Delta: Snake Eater launched with poor Unreal Engine 5 optimization and community-patched fixes.
- The Collector's Edition was mocked for not resembling Snake; its faithful remake stance made fans question its necessity.
- PC peak players were 78% lower than MGS5, peaking at 19,634 on launch, struggling on Steam.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater was one of 2025's most anticipated titles. As a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, completely rebuilt from the ground up, the title offers fans of the series, both new and old, the opportunity to experience a classic Kojima title in all of its modern glory — but its launch hasn't been without its problems.
Shortly after release, fans suggested that the game should have been delayed due to its terrible Unreal Engine 5 optimization, leading the community to come together and fix the issues themselves. The game's Collector's Edition was also mocked for looking nothing like Snake, and its unwillingness to deviate from the original has led fans to question whether the remake was even necessary.
It seems like these early complaints have caused the game to struggle on PC, with Delta: Snake Eater only hitting 22 percent of the players that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain managed at launch.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Has Struggled On Steam Against Metal Gear Solid 5
According to data from SteamDB, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater peaked at 19,634 players on Steam on its launch day. By comparison, Metal Gear Solid 5 reached a peak of 91,195 players during its launch week. This represents a 78 percent drop in players versus the previous numbered title in the series.
At the time of writing (around 4am ET), Delta Snake Eater (5,978) has fewer than three times the players of MGS 5 (2,144), despite the latter being almost exactly ten years older.
Of course, there is a potential that the difference isn't as stark on other platforms, with some likely opting to play the game on PlayStation, where the original was released; however, it's still a significant difference. It doesn't help that the game was immediately cracked, either.
