"They Think That The Game Looks Fantastic": Playtesters Are Having A Blast With Marvel's Wolverine, Says Insider

In 2021, Marvel's Spider-Man developer Insomniac announced a brand-new Wolverine game with a brief CGI clip of Logan drinking at a Madripoor bar. But in the years since, there has been no official update on the project aside from hints to its more mature tone.
According to Insider Gaming editor-in-chief Tom Henderson, that's because it underwent internal delays, and it's hardly surprising to see why. Towards the end of 2023, Insomniac was the victim of a historic ransomware hack, and while the entire game leaking, including a playable build, is bad enough, the attack also included private employee information, such as addresses and social security numbers.
1.6 terabytes of data, ie 1.3 million files, were made public, among them Slack screenshots, HR documents, passport scans, internal emails, and more. All of which was stolen and leaked online by Rhysida, who attempted to blackmail Sony.
Understandably, devs were under immense "emotional strain", which played a "massive role" in Wolverine's delay. However, even in the face of these challenges, Insomniac remains undeterred, as Henderson claims that things are going incredibly well behind the scenes and that the game is shaping up to be a hit.
"From a few playtesters that I've been speaking to, they think that the game looks fantastic, so that's good news," he said. "And fingers crossed we get to see a release date in a couple of weeks' time."
Marvel's Wolverine Is Expected To Appear At The Reported State Of Play Later This Month, With Insiders Speculating That Sony May Announce A Release Window
Veering more into speculation, Henderson said that he believes Insomniac won't put an exact date on Wolverine at the rumoured State of Play later this month, but that it will confirm a 2026 release window.
Insomniac said in April that it will "share news about the game when *we* are ready to share it."
Right now, Wolverine, along with Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, is only listed as an "upcoming" game, with PlayStation's public roadmap ending at fiscal year 2025. If Henderson is right, and Wolverine does appear at the next PlayStation showcase, then this would be the first hint at a release date we've had since the game was announced.
The State of Play is reported to be taking place towards the end of September, and Insider Gaming confidently claimed that Wolverine will "almost certainly" feature, but that if it doesn't make an appearance, a new trailer will "undoubtedly" launch in the next few months, anyway, potentially at The Game Awards.
