With his constant adjustments, his power fluctuates constantly, yet he remains a solid card nonetheless. No matter how many times they change him, the mad titan will never be considered weak, and with such a powerful entourage of Stones at his disposal, he can always find a way to win games.

Updated on April 18, 2024, by Alfredo Robelo: No other card has gone through more changes than Thanos, which means the cards he was once good with no longer synergize well. We’ve updated this list to show the current best cards for the iconic Marvel villain.

8 Caiera

Absolute Protection

One of the biggest changes to Thanos overall is that, now you always draw him in turn one, his win rate has dropped quite significantly. Still, the idea behind it is not a bad one, since now you can plan around the fact that, if you buff Thanos, you’ll also be able to play him.

The Power Stone gives Thanos +10 power if you played all the stones, so remember to leave room on the board for the mad titan.

That means that both Thanos and his Infinity Stones are valuable for your win condition, making Caiera the perfect protection for your deck. Her ongoing ability makes your one and six-cost cards invulnerable, so if Thanos was powerful before, an immortal Thanos is even more so.

7 Black Swan

You Have To Play All Those Stones Somehow

Black Swan’s ability makes it so, on your next turn, your one-cost cards cost zero. She’s a great addition to Thanos since, while he and his Stones have great powers, you need them in play if you want to make the most of them.

Black Swan is easily countered by things like Mobius M. Mobius, so it isn’t always a good idea to save her for turn five. Depending on your hand, you can drop her in turn three to spread some Stones next turn, although you always need to be mindful of potential Killmongers going around.

6 Kazar

Making The Stones Grow

Kazar has an ongoing ability that gives all your one cost cards +1 power, making him a powerhouse if you manage to have all the Stones in play. He even buffs random cards that you might get from the locations, like the Raptors, the Hand Ninjas or even the Rocks.

Currently, the Mind Stone costs two energy, meaning it won’t be buffed by Kazar.

While he adds a lot of energy, you do need to be careful not to fill up your locations too early. If you rely on Kazar’s power too much, you might end up with a lackluster location that is easily beat; four one-power Stones buffed by Kazar are only eight power total.

5 Blue Marvel

Expected But Hard To Counter

Blue Marvel and Kazar serve similar purposes, since they essentially have the same ability, but Blue Marvel buffs all your other cards. Since they are both impactful, you should try not to have them in the same location, unless you’re planning on playing Onslaught alongside them.

Blue Marvel’s high cost makes him hard to wave into most matches, so you should consider how much you gain by playing him. He’s still a must-have in the deck, but that doesn’t mean that he is the ideal choice for every match: sometimes, you don’t need a little power everywhere, but a big swing in a single location.

4 Mockingbird

She Never Costs Five

Mockingbird works nicely with all versions of Thanos, since her ability makes her cost one less for each card in play that didn’t start in your deck. The Stones fill that purpose perfectly, since Thanos puts them on your deck as the game starts, not before.

Her nine power is also a great boon, since she’s just below what Shang-Chi might counter, meaning that she’s nearly always safe to play. If you’re having trouble playing her, you might want to add Squirrel Girl to the mix, since that one-cost card already fits nicely with everything else.

3 Dazzler

The Star Of The Show

Dazzler has the ongoing ability of gaining +2 power for each filled location, making her potentially reach eight power if all locations are full. This is easy to fulfill with Thanos, since you’re already filling everything with the six Infinity Stones.

Since Dazzler will reliably reach eight power, you should treat her as such, and not mix her with other equally strong cards. Mockingbird and Dazzler, for example, are wasted on the same location, unless you think it’ll be highly contested due to that location’s traits.

2 Valkyrie

The Equalizer

Valkyrie has an on-reveal ability that turns all cards on her location to three power, meaning that, more often than not, her location is won by whoever has the most cards. With all the Stones you’ll be smearing around, the one with the most cards will likely be you.

You can also guarantee the win by combining her with other location-based cards, like the aforementioned Dazzler or even Ant-Man. She also combines well with the Soul Stone, since that Stone gives -1 power to all enemy cards at that location, allowing you to win with only three cards on your side.

1 Spectrum

Few Expect This Power Bomb

Spectrum is not usually seen in Thanos builds, which makes her a great surprise play on the final turn. She makes for a great addition, since her on-reveal ability gives +2 power to all your ongoing cards in play, something that you already have a lot of.

Two of the six Stones are already ongoing cards, but you’d be adding plenty more thanks to their synergies. Dazzler, Kazar and Caiera already have abilities that benefit your deck, but thanks to Spectrum, they also become bodies able to win locations, so place them with that in mind.
