When a card is released in Marvel Snap, it isn’t always evident which place it will take in the meta. As the game becomes more and more complex, it's tough to realize what sets and strategies are going to be easier to counter than others. Havok is one of the hardest cards to decipher, since its effect brings in a tremendous amount of power paired with a very heavy cost.

Havok gains four power by removing one max energy each turn, meaning that the moment you play him you won't gain any more energy. This deck will focus not only on minimizing the impact that effect brings, but also on giving that effect to your opponent.

9 Viper

The Most Evil Move In Marvel Snap

Viper’s ability is to send over one of your played cards to your opponent’s side, which is why she’s naturally paired with things like The Hood or Sentry. With Havok, you can send him over and limit what your opponent can do for the rest of the game, usually resolving in a retreat from them.

The best moment to send Havok over is in turn three, even if you have to lose some maximum energy to do so. Without any six-cost cards, you can do without the energy, but you should only play Havok if you have Viper in hand; gambling it all on a lucky draw will lose you more games in the long run.

8 The Hood

Viper’s Best Friend

While the best use of Viper in the deck is to send over Havok, that will rarely come to pass. Whenever that can’t happen, sending over The Hood is also worthwhile; it won’t completely negate everything they’re trying to do, but it will clog them up significantly.

Annihilus also helps with using The Hood, since he can either send or get rid of the card completely. The Demon that comes from The Hood is also worthwhile, since if you manage to limit their energy reserves, six power on the final turns is a bigger deal than usual.

7 Black Widow

The Indirect Clogger

Ever since the Widow’s Bite that Black Widow sends to your opponent changed to having minus one power, the popularity of Black Widow herself within the meta skyrocketed. So her inclusion in a clog deck makes clear sense, even if she isn’t doing much with all the other cards.

While they will always play the Bite immediately, you did at least prevent one draw from happening, and in a game with only 12 card decks, a single draw can be significant. Black Widow herself might not make for a lot of power, but in certain cases, you can even send her over with Viper to clog your opponent even further.

6 Psylocke

Taking Energy Back

When Psylocke is played, she guarantees an extra point of energy for your next turn, which can be used in a multitude of ways. The main one, clearly, is to play Psylocke on turn two, followed by both Havok and Viper on three.

Even when you’re not doing that, however, she still functions as an answer to Havok being played on your own side. Psylocke can give you that point of energy that Havok takes, letting you play normally and having Havok grow with nearly no penalty.

5 Ravonna Renslayer

Cheating Out Both Goblins

While Ravonna Renslayer is mostly used to discount heavy hitters like Darkhawk, here she serves a similar purpose as Psylocke: Play Viper and Havok on the same turn. Beyond that, she also has her uses, but this is where she differs the most from the mutant.

Since Ravonna lowers the cost of cards with one or less power, she doesn’t synergize with every part of your deck, but two cards she works wonders with are the Goblins. Their negative power can have a great impact on the match, and with a lowered cost, it’s hard for your opponent to see them coming.

4 Green Goblin And Hobgoblin

Invading Your Opponent

Few decks can run both Goblins on the same list, since it’s usually enough with just Green Goblin. He’s less predictable than his five-cost counterpart, and works just as well when you’re aiming to clog up your opponent.

This list can run both of them because of how the pieces fit together. If you make some mistake with the Goblins, and they end up on your side, you can just kill them with Annihilus, and when you can send Havok over, there are too few plays your opponent can do to prevent the Goblins from hovering their way.

3 Shadow King And Shang-Chi

Dealing With Their Havok

The few matches you succeed in sending Havok over, you still need to deal with his massive power. Shadow King and Shang-Chi are two different ways in which you can deal with the card, all the while not messing with your other game plans.

Even when you’re not sending Havok, both of these counter cards are still worth it. Blob is a great representation of something they can both counter with ease, putting an end to any big combos your opponent might try to do.

2 Sentry

Hard To Counter With No Energy

Any deck that looks to clog the opponent uses Sentry, since within those shells he can often represent about 20 power. Keep in mind that, while Sentry and the Void offer plenty of power, you still need to be able to send that Void over.

A good idea when sending Havok over is to do it in the right location, since if you play Sentry and you can’t deal with the Void, you can at least not also worry about the ever-growing Havok. If you also have Shadow King or Shang-Chi in hand, it’s best to send him to the other locations.

1 Annihilus

The Clogging Champion

Annihilus isn’t the best clogging card because he sends all the negative power cards to your opponent’s side, he’s the best clogging card because he destroys them if there’s no room to send them to. This allows you plenty of room for mistakes, and even clever placements.

When facing a mirror match, you should focus on losing priority. When two Annihilus’ are played, the last one placed is the one that wins, so make sure to look at all the locations and see what you can do to give that priority to your opponent.
