Mafia has grown gracefully over the last two decades. The game revolves around themes of loyalty, betrayal, and family as you play as Tommy Angelo as he ascends the ranks of the Mafia. The Definitive Edition is a full-blown remake, and adds all sorts of loving and small touches to the game while retaining the general story and missions.

One of the most enjoyable parts of playing Mafia is the wide range of weapons. This article focuses exclusively on firearms and melee weapons, which means that throwable explosives like dynamite, Molotovs, and grenades have been off the list.
13 Fists
When you don't have anything else in the game, you can use your firsts. Understandably, your fists rank last in Mafia: Definitive Edition.
They're the least powerful weapon and have little to no appeal. If you're desperate, though, fists will have to work. On the positive side, you'll never not have your hands, meaning you won't be without some way of fighting back.
12 Baseball Bats
A two-handed melee weapon, you first pick up the baseball bat in the "Better Get Used To IT" mission.
The baseball bat has lots of appeal after films like Goodfellas and The Sopranos used it, but this is not the strongest melee weapon available. Still, it's better than your fists, and it gives a nice, solid thwak when cracked against some gangster's head.
11 Wooden Planks
Another two-handed melee weapon, you pick this weapon up once and only once in the mission "Sarah".
While the wooden plank feels comparable damage-wise to the baseball bat, it ranks higher due to scarcity. You likely won't be using this for very long, but when you do, at least it's something different.
10 Pipes
Another two-handed weapon, the pipe can be found in "Sarah", "Election Campaign", or even in the hands of punks on the street.
The pipe seems comparable in damage to the wooden plank and the baseball bat. The pipe, however, ranks higher because the animations when you use the pipe are often more memorable, if not a bit brutal and jarring.
9 Knives
The only one-handed melee weapon in Mafia, you first pick up the knife in "Better Get Used To It".
While all the melee weapons feel comparable with damage, you can wield the knife one-handed, and it often leads to the most graphic and intense sequences out of all the melee weapons as you slice and stab your opponent.
8 Colt Python
Another one-handed weapon with a bigger ammo capacity, The Colt holds 6 rounds, but you can carry an additional 18 for 24 rounds. The weapon is comparable to other handguns regarding firepower.
Oddly, the Colt Python did not exist during the era when Mafia is set, which makes the Colt Python rank lower on the list than it otherwise would have.
7 The Springfield M1903
Sniper rifles can make great weapons, but the M1903 comes with some noticeable limitations that keep it from ranking higher. First, the weapon's ammo capacity is relatively low. The M1903A1 can only hold five rounds, while another ten rounds can be carried.
Based on the United States Army's standard-issue rifle at the time Mafia is set, the weapon has an unimpressive firing rate. As a result, you rarely encounter the weapon in later game missions. If you need a sniper rifle, this is okay. Generally, though, not worth picking up.
6 Smith & Wesson Model 19
Plenty of times in Mafia: Definitive Edition, you need a handgun rather than bigger firepower. If you need a small handgun, the 19 (which first appeared in Mafia 3 as the Alfredsson M200) is the most powerful pistol in the game.

The 19 has its shortcomings, though. For one, the 19 holds six rounds and carries an additional 18, which is lower than some other pistols. Additionally, the 19 boasts a weaker fire rate and range than some other Mafia: DE revolvers.
5 Colt M1911
One of the most popular handguns during its era due to good firing rates, strong accuracy, and reliability, the M1911 holds 7 rounds and can carry an additional 21 rounds for a 28-round total capacity.
The M1911 is the most commonly carried handgun in Mafia: DE, which means that if you’re going to get a leg up on the competition, you’re going to need something better. Still, though, not a bad weapon and it’s historically accurate.
4 Lupara (Double Barreled Shotgun)
Inspired by the sawed-off shotgun in the original game, the Lupara has some stopping power. A two-handed weapon, the weapon holds two rounds but you can carry an additional ten. Given the low ammo capacity, this gun isn’t great for fighting off groups and in any situation, you’ll need to make sure that you make every shot count.
While the Lupara might not be the most powerful or best weapon in the game, it ranks higher because this is perhaps the most historically accurate weapon in the game. The Prohibition-era Sicilian Mafia relied on the Lupara to settle scores.
