Every sport has its superstar players. They also have those that fly under the radar. These underrated athletes prove themselves with incredible performances, but never quite get the recognition they deserve. This has never been more evident than in the popular American football simulator Madden 23.

There are 32 teams in the National Football League. Each team has a roster of 53 players, but not all of them take the field. Only 11 players are allowed at any given time, but they will differ depending on the team's current situation. This could be offense, defense, or special teams. That makes plenty of room for over-performing individuals to go unnoticed and be considered underrated.
10 Jimmy Garoppolo
Jimmy Garoppolo may have seceded from the starting role on the San Francisco 49ers, but this is a player who once led the team to a Super Bowl. Upon Madden 23's release, there were several quarterbacks who can't hold a candle to Jimmy rated much higher than him. Whether you're playing with the 49ers or lobbying to get him on another team in the Franchise Mode, you've got a solid QB on your hands.
His skills translate from real life to Madden 23 quite well. If you decide to give him a try with an above-average offensive line, he'll demonstrate the patience and movement to find an open receiver downfield. You don't need a Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers to make an offense excellent and Jimmy is proof of that.
9 Breece Hall
Breece Hall is an Iowa State product who was drafted by the New York Jets. Madden 23 coincides with Hall's rookie year. Rookies aren't often rated high unless they are poised to be the next big thing in the NFL. Well, Breece Hall certainly could be, but his initial Madden 23 rating was rather low. He even publicly took offense to the low speed he was given.
This running back is as speedy as they come, but he wasn't even ranked in the top five of his position upon the game's release. That's not to say he is slow in the game by any means. If you want a workhouse running back whose stamina will stay intact after taking it to the house for a 99-yard touchdown, this is your guy.
8 Jalen Hurts
Jalen Hurts represents the new age of quarterbacks in the NFL. The Philadelphia Eagles superstar suffered an ankle injury in 2021 that set him back a bit, which is why his Madden 23 rating isn't as high as it should be. He started at an 89 when the game was launched, but his play-making ability should have seen him even higher than that.

He is a player who took the Eagles to the playoffs in his first two seasons as a full-time starter. One of those ended with a very close Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. This saw him break the record for the most rushing yards and rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in Super Bowl history. He deserves to be one of the top-rated Madden players in years to come.
7 Jordyn Brooks
Jordyn Brooks is a rising star in the National Football League. The Seattle Seahawks player quietly had an incredible season prior to the launch of Madden 23. An injury to a teammate allowed him to move up the depth chart and get his first taste of what being a start on a pro team feels like. From there, he was nothing but stellar.
This is simply a case of a newer player not being given credit until he secures a massive contract. It happens all the time with Madden ratings. Brooks can be utilized at a much higher level than where his underrated Madden 23 character began. Though suffering an ACL injury in 2022, he still finished the season with the highest number of tackles on his team at 161.
6 James Conner
James Conner spent the first portion of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. This came after beating cancer and having the highest-selling jersey in all of the NFL prior to the start of his rookie season. He was almost always in a backup role, though. That all changed when he moved on to the Arizona Cardinals.
His inaugural season with the Cardinals saw him take the starting spot and be the best running back they'd seen in years. He finished that year with the second-highest touchdowns in the NFL, was named to the Pro Bowl, and ranked 80th in the NFL Top 100 Players of 2022 by his peers. Starting Madden 23 at an 81 is an insult to the running back.
5 Kyler Murray
A beginning rating of 84 is not bad by any means, but Kyler Murray has proven to be miles ahead of that number. He's notoriously known for his love of gaming and how he performs better in a season before the year's Call of Duty release takes place. Regardless of that, when he's on, it is hard to find someone better.

Murray was named the NFL Offensive Rooke of the Year in his first season after setting a plethora of Arizona Cardinals franchise records. In 2021, he took the Cardinals to their first postseason appearance since 2015. If he continues to do this, he'll be one of the best quarterbacks in Madden. Until then, it seems like he still has to prove himself to the rating givers.
4 Zach Wilson
Zach Wilson was the top quarterback of his draft class. The hype and the potential were equally large for this QB as he was selected second overall in 2021 by the New York Jets. Yes, a couple of injuries and a poor attitude saw him replaced in the starting role, but he remained poised to break out at some point.
He opened Madden 23 with a 73 overall rating. Despite his quick rise and fall from grace, that's quite low for a player who was labeled as the future of the Jets prior to the game's launch. There are plenty of players that should be ranked higher than Zach Wilson, but the fact that he's in the low 70s is ludicrous.
3 Kenny Moore
Coming into Madden 23, Kenny Moore was the 15th-best overall cornerback with an 87 rating. To think there are 15 total cornerbacks better than Moore is a hard pill to swallow. The worst part is that his teammate, Stephon Gilmore, was rated higher although he performed noticeably worse during their first year as a duo.
Kenny Moore has been in the league for a few years now, but he's finally starting to break out as a defensive player. Perhaps he needs to put together a couple more seasons of incredible plays before Madden recognizes his abilities. It won't be long before his ability to break up the pass or intercept one and take it for a touchdown is on full display in the football simulator.
2 Trevon Diggs
Despite being rated 84 coming into Madden 23, Trevon Diggs may arguably be one of the top five players in the entire National Football League. In 2021, he finished with 11 interceptions. This was the most by any player since 1981. On top of that, Diggs led his team with 21 passes defended and received a First Team All-Pro bid.
Those accolades are enough argument to see Trevon Diggs move above an 84. If you actually watch him play, you'll see even more reason. He covers the field well, is quick to the ball, and you'll often notice quarterbacks completely avoid throwing his way at all.
1 Najee Harris
Najee Harris was selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. His starting Madden 23 rating was an 85, putting him out of the top 10 at the running back position. Many of you felt he was snubbed because of how impactful he immediately was upon entering the league.
Harris' rookie season saw him end with the fourth-most rushing yards, fourth-most all-purpose yards, and the most receptions among all running backs. This was complimented by the most touches any position play had that season with 381 and an impressive zero fumbles. He proved he was an elite running back, but Madden 23 didn't make it so.
