March of the Machine might be one of Magic: The Gathering’s most ambitious sets in years, the culmination of the secret machinations of New Phyrexia against the entirety of the Multiverse. With a full suite of Praetors, team-up cards, and even a new card type, March of the Machine brings a lot of unique cards to the game.

Appealing to Standard players as well as Commander and every format in between, there are many cards that players are chasing after to complete their decks. Among the most valuable cards in March of the Machine, there are a ton of serialized cards, which skew the value of regular cards by an astronomical amount and are not included in this list. The prices of these cards are taken from TCGplayer’s Market Value from April 21, 2023, and may change over time.

10 Sword Of Once And Future - $12.55

The Mirran Sword cycle is now complete with the release of the Sword of Once and Future. The blue and black sword gives the equipped creature +2/+2 and protection from blue and black, helping your creature to avoid most of the removal spells in the game.

The protection the sword gives means that not only can your opponent not target the creature with spells and abilities, much like Hexproof, but also means that their creatures, planeswalkers, and other permanents cannot interact with it either. Your opponent can still destroy the Sword itself with any number of artifact destruction abilities, but artifact removal is relatively rare and can be played around easily.

9 Sheoldred // The True Scriptures (Showcase) - $12.97

The fancier version of Sheoldred and The True Scriptures comes first, featuring the now iconic inky artwork of New Phyrexia. Sheoldred itself is a monster once played and don’t be surprised if you find yourself rarely transforming it.

When Sheoldred hits the battlefield, it forces each of your opponents to sacrifice a non-token creature or planeswalker, all but guaranteeing you get a good card off the board. This ability helps you accelerate towards transforming Sheoldred into The True Scriptures, a powerful Saga that can steal everything from everyone’s graveyard for yourself.

8 Sheoldred // The True Scripture - $13.47

Coming out only slightly more expensive than its showcase counterpart is the regular printing of Sheoldred and The True Scriptures. Though it costs only five mana to transform Sheoldred into The True Scriptures, you can only do it once an opponent has eight or more cards in their graveyard.

Once transformed, The True Scriptures destroys another creature or planeswalker an opponent controls, removing the biggest threat in play. Once the second chapter hits, each opponent discards three cards and mills three more, further filling up their graveyards for the final chapter.

With the last lore counter, The True Scriptures steals all creatures from all graveyards and brings them into play under your control, just like a real Phyrexian.

7 Sword Of Once And Future (Extended Art) - $14.85

Coming back again to this list is Sword of Once and Future. Where the Sword truly gets to shine is when you have filled much of your graveyard with cheap spells. Every time the equipped creature connects with a player, you get to surveil 2, moving cards from the library to the graveyard if you choose, and then giving you a free spell so long as that spell costs two or fewer mana.

Players who follow the lore of Magic will note that this Sword depicts Castle Locthwain from Eldrain in the background. It is fitting that this Sword, whose name is a reference to the novel The Once and Future King by T. H. White, would depict the plane that draws inspiration from classic Arthurian legends.

6 Urabrask // The Great Work (Showcase) - $15.18

The showcase version of Urabrask comes first among the more valuable cards from March of the Machine. This combo-focused legendary creature rewards your spell casting by dealing one point of damage to an opponent with each instant or sorcery you cast and then refunding one red mana back to your mana pool.

There are tons of ways to capitalize on Urabrask, among the best include pairing it up with other cards that have similar effects. Cards like Birgi, God of Storytelling also grant you extra mana for each red spell you cast.

5 Urabrask // The Great Work - $15.71

The regular version of Urabrask takes the next slot among the most valuable cards in March of the Machine. Transforming Urabrask into The Great Work is a little more difficult that other Praetors, which is why it only costs one red mana to do so.

As The Great Work, this saga can be a smaller board wipe, dealing three damage to an opponent and all their creatures. The second chapter is a little underwhelming, creating three Treasure tokens, but it helps with its final chapter.

Once the last lore counter goes on The Great Work you can cast all your instant and sorcery spells in your graveyard for the turn, effectively giving you a ton of cards to refill your hand.

4 Wrenn And Realmbreaker - $15.73

The massive, conjoined planeswalker and Phyrexian tree of Wrenn and Realmbreaker is the top planeswalker from March of the Machine. This green planeswalker costs only three mana and comes loaded with three loyalty abilities and a passive ability to help fix your mana.

With Wrenn and Realmbreaker out, your lands all tap for any color of mana, giving you all the colors of mana you need to cast your spells. Wrenn and Realmbreaker can even protect itself by turning one of your lands into a 3/3 creature, letting you attack with your lands.

3 Wrenn And Realmbreaker (Borderless) - $17.79

As far as planeswalkers go, Wrenn and Realmbreaker have tons of potential to be a powerhouse in Magic. These two can help you find an answer to your board by milling yourself three cards and returning a permanent back to your hand from among the milled cards.

Keep in mind that if you play Wrenn and Realmbreaker on turn three, and choose to animate a land, that land remains tapped. You cannot use it to protect Wrenn and Realmbreaker the turn it comes into play, making it more of a turn four play if you are relying on the land to keep your planeswalker safe.

2 Elesh Norn // The Argent Etchings (Showcase) - $18.25

As the leader of the Phyrexians, it is no wonder that Elesh Norn and the saga take up the top two slots as the most valuable cards from the set. The front side of Elesh Norn is a strong deterrent to your opponents if they move to attack you.

When any source deals damage to you or a permanent you control, they will lose two life unless they can pay one generic mana. Your opponent will have to be in a very good position in terms of creatures and available mana to be able to attack you without losing at least some amount of life.

1 Elesh Norn // The Argent Etchings - $19.10

To transform Elesh Norn into The Argent Etchings you will need to sacrifice three other creatures, an easy task with the number of tokens running around New Phyrexia. As The Argent Etchings, this saga replaces your sacrificed creatures with five Incubator tokens with two +1/+1 counters on them and then transforms all your Incubator tokens into creatures.

In the second chapter, The Argent Etchings gives all your creatures +1/+1 and double strike, giving you at least 15 power on board across your Incubator tokens, and since they gain double strike that's 30 damage you can send your opponent’s way. In the final chapter, The Argent Etchings blows up everything in play except artifacts, lands, and other Phyrexians.
