If there's one thing Spider-Man loves more than cheesy puns, it's the multiverse. You can't swing through Manhattan without stumbling across some alternate reality multiverse stuff, leading to literally hundreds of versions of Peter Parker throughout the series history.

And now Magic: The Gathering is getting in on the fun too, by giving one of Spidey's many, many cards in the set an equally expansive wardrobe. Unfortunately, no sign of my favourite just yet: Peter Parquah of Marvel 1602.

Into The Multiverse... Not The Magic One, The Spider One

Revealed at PAX East's debut for Spider-Man as one of many alternative art treatments coming in the set, one particular card will have a whopping ten different art styles. Spectacular Spider-Man is friendly neighbourhood Earth-616 webslinger we know and love, and takes the form of a mono-white legendary creature that can protect the rest of your board.

But alongside the regular art and an exclusive promo edition, the card is getting eight different costumes, with art by Roberta Ingranata. We'd already seen the stock Spider-Man version, but today also saw the reveal of the Stealth Suit, Spider-Armor MK I, Six-Armed Spider-Man, Sensational Spider-Man, the Future Foundation, the infamous black suit from his Venom-induced angsty phase, and even The Bombastic Bag-Man.

If you're coming in to Magic with Spider-Man, don't forget these are all different versions of the same card. In most formats you can only run four of them, but in Commander you only get one.

At ten, Spectacular Spider-Man already has more art treatments than the vast majority of other creatures. It clears Elesh Norn, Mother Of Machine's five, and is only beaten by Gala Greeters from Streets of New Capenna, which has 12.

It's all very reminiscent of the Insomniac Spider-Man games, which used dozens of alternative costumes as collectibles as you zipped across the city. They were one of the highlights of both games, shining a light on the more niche depictions of Peter out there.

A Comical Amount Of Art Treatments

On top of Spidey's expansive wardrobe, the debut stream showed off a whole slew of cards and alternate art styles. The booster fun treatment for this set uses classic comic art, such as Eddie Brock//Venom, Lethal Protector using Todd McFarlane and Bob Sharen's classic illustrations, or Behold The Sinister Six having a comic frame style by Leinil Francis Yu and Sunny Gho.

If classic comic art is your thing, the bonus sheet is also delivering it in spades. This isn't part of the main Spider-Man set, but is instead a 'source material' bonus sheet, filling a similar role to the Through The Ages bonus sheet from Final Fantasy.but includes things like Todd McFarlane's work on Arachnogenesis, and Heroic Intervention featuring the debut cover of Spider-Man by Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko.

Spider-Man's previews begin today, with the whole set being shown off over the next week, ahead of its launch on September 26.
