The Monty Python collaboration is exclusively comprised of reskins of existing cards, giving them a new name and a Monty Python coat of paint. As such, the strength of these cards is already known, and many of the cards included are staples across multiple formats.

8 Tim The Enchanter

Prodigal Sorcerer

While Tim is a named character, meaning under normal Magic circumstances they'd be legendary, it's only fitting that Tim the Enchanter is a reskin of the Prodigal Sorcerer, who has long been given the nickname Tim after this very character. While Tim is a fantastic choice for this reason, the same can not be said about the card effect he gets.

Tim the Enchanter is unique in that it is burn damage available in mono blue, however, that damage is only one. It's great at taking out weak creatures or in combo pieces that can make it untap itself easily, but overall, there are just better options that accomplish the same thing.

7 The Bridge Of Death

Door To Nothingness

The Bridge Of Death is a very funny card for decks that are all five colors, giving you a way to instantly make someone else lose the game. It takes a ton of setup and investment to do so, but in decks focused on activating the effect, you can accomplish it more easily.

Door to Nothingness is a weaker, albeit iconic card due to its instant-win nature (and if you resolve it in a non-multiplayer game you'll instantly win). Although it's not the most exciting card, it's a fitting card for The Bridge of Death to attach its name to.

6 Bring Out Your Dead!

Buried Alive

Bring Out Your Dead! is a fantastic card in the right deck. Buried Alive sees play in many formats as a way to easily dump multiple creatures into the graveyard that you can bring out through other means. Since its mana cost is low, it's easy to cast early in the game to set up your graveyard right away.

One such way is sending three Arclight Phoenix to the graveyard and casting three instant and sorceries (including Buried Alive) to bring them to the battlefield instantly. There are many other combos available, making Bring Out Your Dead! a great art variant for Buried Alive.

5 'Tis But A Scratch!

Dismember

Perhaps the most iconic scene in all of Monty Python, 'Tis But a Scratch! is a very playable card thanks to it being a reskin of Dismember. Dismember is a fantastic removal spell, seeing competitive play in every format it's legal in.

What makes Dismember so powerful is that it gives any deck access to a removal spell. Despite being black mana, since it is Phyrexian black mana, you can pay two life instead and just one generic mana to cast. This allows 'Tis But A Scratch! to be used by Monty Python fans in their competitive decks in whatever format they play.

4 Castle Of Aaargh

Dark Depths

Dark Depths is a staple of Legacy decks, letting Castle of Aargh have a competitive home if you want to Monty Python-ify your Lands, Dec and Dark Depth decks. The best use of Dark Depths is to copy it with another land so it won't have any counters on it and be sacrificed to make the Avatar token.

The Black Beast of Aaargh (Marit Large) is very hard to deal with. After all, very few cards can stop a 20/20 with flying and indestructible, even in such a high-powered format like Legacy. There are many ways to create the token, along with ways to create non legendary copies to amass a terrifying battlefield that'll make anyone go "Aaargh!"

3 We Want...A SHRUBBERY

Three Visits

Three Visits is a staple of green in Commander, and one of the best ramp spells there is. We Want...A SHRUBBERY is something you can play in any of your Commander decks running green, since it can fetch out dual lands and triomes since you can put any Forest on the battlefield, not just a basic.

Your opponents can breathe. They can blink. They can cry. Heck, they'll probably be doing all of that with MTG's Walking Dead cards.

Three Visits also puts in the land untapped, allowing you to immediately use the land you just tutored for. With the right Forest, you can even generate more mana than average, making the card even more powerful than it already is.

2 Sir Bedivere's Scales

Ashnod's Altar

If you are playing a sacrifice deck, Ashnod Altar is a staple of it. Being able to turn a creature into two colorless mana can ramp you up exponentially, especially when you have a way to continuously make new token creatures to sacrifice to it.

Sir Bedivere's Scales is both a great reprint and a flavorful art choice for Ashnod's Altar, and sees play in both various Commander decks and even in Altar Tron decks in Pauper. It's low casting cost lets you cast it early on in the game and start moving your mana generation forward and make an early impact.

1 African Swallow / European Swallow

Birds Of Paradise

Birds of Paradise gets not one, but two reprints with new arts - African Swallow and European Swallow. It's a reference to an argument in the movie about whether a swallow can carry a coconut and carry it as they migrate, depicting the African and European swallows doing just that respectively. It's a nice nod for Monty Python fans, and a phenomenal reprint for Magic players, even if they've never actually seen the movie.

Birds of Paradise is one of the best mana dorks in all of Magic's history. Despite it being around since the very first set Alpha, nearly no other mana dork has ever touched it. Being able to create any color of mana to spend however you want it is incredible. "Bolt the Bird" exists because of how important it is to destroy it as soon as it enters the battlefield.
