The prices here are from TCGplayer’s Market Value and are subject to change over time. Modern Horizons 3 also has serialized cards, which can be difficult to track so we left them off here.
10 Ugin's Labyrinth
Borderless - $60.74
Lands can be huge players in a deck, helping to accelerate out your biggest spells or helping to keep your game consistent. Ugin’s Labyrinth does a little bit of both in Modern Horizons 3.
When it comes into play, you can choose to exile a colorless card with a mana value of seven or more from your hand. If you do, Ugin’s Labrinth taps for two colorless mana instead of just one. Later in the game, when you need that huge spell back, you can tap it to return the imprinted card back to your hand.
9 Ugin's Binding
Borderless - $60.96
Holy hedrons Ugin, look at the artwork on this card. Not only does Ugin’s Binding depict the planeswalking Dragon using the same process that bound the Eldrazi to Zendikar, but it is also a pretty impressive card.
For three mana, bouncing one card back to its owner’s hand isn’t great, but it can do some work in a pinch. The real power of this card comes when it's in your graveyard. Anytime you cast a colorless spell with a mana value of seven or more, you can exile Ugin’s Binding from your graveyard, bouncing all nonland permanents you don’t control back to everyone’s hands.
8 Ulamog, The Defiler
Retro Frame - $66.54
Eldrazi are tough to beat, especially when they get bigger and bigger over the course of a game. While not as expensive (mana-wise) as Emrakul, Ulamog, the Defiler still comes in at an impressive ten mana to cast.

As you'd expect, Modern got a lot of goodies from Magic: The Gathering's Modern Horizons 3.
PostsDealing with an Ulamog once it is in play is a bit of a pain for your opponents too, since if they want to target it with any sort of spell or ability, they’ll have to sacrifice two permanents as part of its ward effect. While in Commander that might not be as high of a cost, in constructed formats like Modern and Legacy, it can be near impossible to do while staying in the game.
7 Emrakul, The World Anew
Borderless - $66.76
One of the most powerful cards in the set, Emrakul, the World Anew is the new boogieman in all sorts of formats now. At a staggering twelve mana, casting Emrakul might not be in the cards very often, which is fine most of the time since you’re not going to be playing fair Magic with this card.
There are a few different ways to bring this Emrakul into play well before you have twelve mana available to you. You can use any number of reanimation effects to quickly bring it back, or you can use a card like Show and Tell to just cheat it into play as early as turn three. There’s even a built-in alternate casting cost for Emrakul with its madness cost of six colorless mana if you happen to discard it.
6 Ajani, Nacatl Pariah / Ajani, Nacatl Avenger
Borderless & Textured Foil - $67.52
Ajani has had some tough times lately, so he’s getting a new flippable planeswalker card to help ease the pain a bit. For two mana, you get a 1/2 creature version of Ajani, along with a 2/1 Cat Warrior token.
Once any Cat creature you control dies, you can flip him into Ajani, Nacatl Avenger. His abilities are all about Cats, pumping up your Cats with +1/+1 counters, making Cat tokens and dealing damage based on the number of Cats you control. The final ability diverges a bit but forces your opponents to pick one card of a bunch of card types, and then forces them to sacrifice the rest.
5 Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student
Borderless & Textured Foil - $68.09
The planeswalkers of Modern Horizons 3 are glimpses back to their origins when they first awoke their planeswalker spark and traveled across the multiverse. Tamiyo is particularly good since she’s effectively a one-man planeswalker.

Modern Horizon 3 has plenty of familiar faces amidst a sea of new cards.
PostsFlipping her is very easy, all you have to do is draw three cards. Once flipped, she comes in at a fairly low two loyalty counters, but as soon as you use her first ability, which protects her from attacks, you tick her up to four counters, and positions her outside most damage-dealing removal spells.
4 Emrakul, the World Anew
Foil Etched - $84.42
The nice thing about Emrakul, the World Anew is that the designers behind this set managed to keep Emrakul’s devastating power, while still making it feel mechanically unique.
The mass creature stealing elements of Emrakul can decidedly turn the battle in your favor, especially since it's a permanent theft of those creatures since you sacrifice them all if Emrakul leaves the battlefield for any reason. Technically you sacrifice all creatures you control, not just the stolen ones, but if you have a way to reanimate or blink Emrakul, you can just steal some more.
3 Sorin Of House Markov / Sorin, Ravenous Neonate
Borderless & Textured Foil - $85.65
The brooding vampire lord is even more morose in his long-lost human days. Sorin of House Markov might start as a two-mana creature but can flip super easily to the much more powerful Planeswalker side after you gain a measly three life.
As a newly transformed Vampire, Sorin keeps the life gain flowing with a stream of Food tokens thanks to his first ability and then can deal damage to any target equal the amount of life you’ve gained in a turn with his second. This is a one-two punch, especially in Commander where there are plenty of ways to gain a ton of life in a single turn.
2 Ulamog, The Defiler
Foil Etched - $87.70
The top two most vulnerable cards in Modern Horizons 3 are devoted to Ulamog, the Defiler and it is easy to see why. It’s casting trigger exiles the top half of an opponent’s library, quite literally, cutting half their cards out of the game.
Then, it enters the battlefield with +1/+1 counters equal to the highest mana value among all cards in exile, both yours and your opponents. At a minimum, you’re looking at around two to three counters, especially in formats like Modern where the curve of your opponent’s deck is going to be a lot lower than other formats. Ulamog then gains annihilator X, with X equalling the number of +1/+1 counters on it, making it a devastating ability.
1 Ulamog, The Defilier
Borderless - $88.45
The borderless concept art Eldrazi are a special treatment that only the main three Eldrazi titans are getting in Modern Horizon 3. Given Ulamog’s comparative strength in the set, it only makes sense that the borderless version of the card would top the charts in terms of value.
The concept art comes from illustrator Vincent Proce, and is just a part of a much bigger piece, which depicts Ulamog in its early tentacle glory. The art comes from the 2010 Rise of the Eldrazi set, during the original Zendikar block, and is such a cool collectible to own.
