You'll often hear fans of Magic: The Gathering say that "the magic is in the gathering." Magic and other trading card games are inherently social, since you always need another player. And for the most devoted fans, there's MagicCon, a convention specifically for Magic.

Wizards of the Coast schedules several MagicCons each year in different cities, but not everyone can attend all or even one. For those of us who can't make it (or just want some extra goodies), there's Festival in a Box. It has everything you need to have your own home MagicCon!

What Is Festival In A Box?

Festival in a Box is a way to bring all the fun of MagicCon to your mailbox. It's a Secret Lair Drop that has an entire display box of booster packs that you and some friends can draft from, along with exclusive promo cards that can't be found anywhere else.

Each MagicCon celebration has a different Festival in a Box, so if you bought one for Chicago 2025, you'll find completely different promos in the Las Vegas 2025 one.

Festival in a Box is available at the Secret Lair shop about one month before the associated MagicCon. The Las Vegas 2025 version goes on sale on May 19, 2025, at 9:00 AM PT, and will also be available to purchase in-person at MagicCon: LAs Vegas.

What's In The Box?

Mystery Booster 2

The Las Vegas 2025 Festival in a Box contains a full display box of Mystery Booster 2, which includes reprints from most Magic sets. The display box includes 24 15-card booster packs, perfect for an eight-player draft pod.

In addition to reprints from throughout Magic history, Mystery Booster 2 also introduced the first physical prints of several cards, including Alchemy's Rusko, Clockmaker and the Sega Dreamcast-exclusive Velukan Dragon.

Mystery Booster 2 also reprinted several cards with new or rare art, many of which fetch a high enough price to justify the cost of the box. Urza, High Lord Artificer, for example, is reprinted in a futureshifted frame with Mark Tedin's Vanguard art, and sells for over $350.

Secret Lair: Slay The Day

In addition to the Mystery Booster 2 box, the Festival in a Box also contains an exclusive Secret Lair: Slay the Day.

Each of the four legendary creatures in this Secret Lair are drawn by Craig Drake, and are presented in the rainbow foil treatment. This is also the first time any of them are getting new art.

A fifth bonus card is likely to be included as well.

Most of the cards in the Slay the Day Secret Lair are reprints of pretty low-value cards, but the average price of all other Oloro, Ageless Ascetic prints is about $30. This brings the value of the Slay the Day Secret Lair up enough to justify an individual purchase.

Exclusive Festival In A Box Promos

All MagicCon Las Vegas 2025 attendees will receive an exclusive Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful, reskinned as Torgal, Clive's Companion. That card doesn't come in the Festival in a Box, but it does contain three other exclusive cards: the playtest card All-You-Can-Eat Buffet and foil retro-border versions of Ugin, the Spirit Dragon and Sliver Hive.

The playtest cards included in Festival in a Box are always flavored for the location. All-you-can-eat buffets are a popular attraction in Las Vegas casinos, so since Wizards of the Coast can't pack a tray of garlic butter salmon, you'll need to settle for Mark Rosewater's drawing.

Ugin, the Spirit Dragon is a popular planeswalker originally printed in Fates Reforged, but this is the first time it's been available in a retro border. This is a must-have for Dragon fans and collectors, and a great card to add to many different Commander decks.

Sliver Hive has only been printed twice, and since Slivers are a popular creature type it's a really desirable reprint. While the retro-foil reprint won't reach the same value as the borderless one that some players received as a bonus card in 2022, you can expect this one to hold value, or upgrade your own Sliver deck.
