Heroes in My Hero Academia aren't the type you see in comic books. These characters often come with various flaws that make them much more relatable. More than anything, they feel human. Even the number one hero, All Might, has his own problems and flaws that he has to overcome.

Keeping this in mind, it's possible for some of the best heroes to go down the wrong path and become villains. It only takes the wrong kind of help, or no help at all, for some of these characters to change completely. This is further implied throughout My Hero Academia, with villains that directly parallel some of the heroes.

8 Fumikage Tokoyami

  • Hero Name: Tsukuyomi.
  • Quirk: Dark Shadow.

Tokoyami is a stern and talented student with a strong sense of justice. You normally woulstatic.aayyy.com/topic/dn/'t expect a scenario where a character like this becomes the villain. However, the path to darkness for Tokoyami lies within his quirk. Dark Shadow seems to be an entity that exists separately from Tokoyami.

Dark Shadow often yearns for destruction whenever it goes out of control. This happens when Dark Shadow's powers are at their peak. If Tokoyami decides to give in to Dark Shadow's desires, he could become a terrifying villain.

7 Yuga Aoyama

  • Hero Name: Shining Hero: Can't Stop Twinkling.
  • Quirk: Navel Laser.

Aoyama is a cheerful student who appears to be unbothered by anyone's words or thoughts. He has an eccentric personality that may even look narcissistic. Unfortunately, that bright face hid a dark past that no one was aware of for the longest time. Similar to Deku, Aoyama was born quirkless.

Because Aoyama's parents were wealthy, they were able to use All For One to give Aoyama a quirk. This allowed All For One to blackmail Aoyama, making him betray the heroes. If Aoyama's classmates hastatic.aayyy.com/topic/dn/'t believed in him, he could've fully committed to the villainous path.

6 Hitoshi Shinso

  • Hero Name: Nighthide.
  • Quirk: Brainwashing.

Shinso failed the UA entrance exam because the obstacles in the exam were all machines, rendering Shinso's quirk useless. Because of this, Shinso was unable to make it to the hero course of UA. On top of that, all the bystanders always assumed that Shinso's quirk was great for doing evil things.

It woulstatic.aayyy.com/topic/dn/'t have been strange for Shinso to actually become a villain after being unfairly labeled and judged his whole life. Fortunately, Shinso never gave up on his dream and kept trying to prove himself until he made it to the hero course.

5 Neito Monoma

  • Hero Name: Phantom Thief.
  • Quirk: Copy.

Monoma is a highly competitive character who has an inferiority complex, especially when it comes to class 1-A. While competition is healthy for aspiring heroes, Monoma tends to take it too far. Additionally, he has never shown a deep desire to save other people.

Monoma's reasoning for wanting to be a hero is largely unknown, but he could have easily become a villain with that fragile ego. Monoma might be a great example of what happens if heroes intervene early and give the right education to a potential future villain. Because of the bonds he has created, the current Monoma will likely never become a villain.

4 Keigo Takami

  • Hero Name: Hawks.
  • Quirk: Fierce Wings.

Hawks is the youngest hero in history to make it to the top ten heroes in Japan. He's a highly intelligent character who isn't afraid to go against the norm and speak up. However, Hawks' childhood was filled with darkness and tragedy.

Here are the weirdest quirks in My Hero Academia!

Hawks was abused by his father and abandoned by his mother. If All For One had taken advantage of this and took Hawks under his wing, he would've likely grown up to become one of the most cunning villains of My Hero Academia.

3 Enji Todoroki

  • Hero Name: Endeavor.
  • Quirk: Hellflame.

Endeavor was stuck as the number two hero for as long as All Might was number one. Because of this, Endeavor developed an inferiority complex and wanted to surpass All Might by any means necessary. He eventually realized it was impossible, leading Endeavor to force the task onto his offspring.

Endeavor started as an anti-hero from the start and was very close to crossing into the villain line. If not for All Might's retirement and Endeavor realizing the error of his ways, we would've likely seen Endeavor become unstable and transform into a true villain.

2 Shoto Todoroki

  • Hero Name: Shoto.
  • Quirk: Half-Cold Half-Hot.

Todoroki is Endeavor's son who was forced to take on the duty of surpassing All Might. Endeavor trained Todoroki from a very young age, going as far as to abuse Todoroki's mother for getting in the way of their training. At one point, Todoroki's mother poured boiling water on the left side of his face, saying it resembled Endeavor.

After that horrible childhood and abuse from both parents, Todoroki would've likely gone down the same path as his older brother if it wasn't for All Might inspiring Todoroki. Dabi is a great parallel to Todoroki's past hate for his father and what he could've become.

1 Izuku Midoriya

  • Hero Name: Deku.
  • Quirk: One For All.

This may come as a surprise to some, but Deku also had the potential to become a villain if he distatic.aayyy.com/topic/dn/'t meet All Might or inherit One For All. This is directly implied in the anime with the introduction of Gentle Criminal, who was a hero dropout.

Gentle Criminal is likely what Deku would've become if he continued in life trying to be a hero but kept failing due to not having a quirk. It may be a stretch to say that he might directly become a villain, but there might be a major event in his life that could trigger the change in Deku.
