Honey is an underrated resource in Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar. It’s a nice add-on to recipes, has an event dedicated to it, is used for requests, and can make you a lot of gold.

However, Honey is restricted until you do a specific task that’s easily missable. Here’s how to get and unlock Honey in SoS: Grand Bazaar.

There are a few steps before you can start cultivating a farm to get Honey. Once you start your first playthrough in Spring, you’ll eventually meet Arata, who’s going to have a request called “Prepping for Some Heavy Lifting.” It’s one of the earliest requests, but if you aren’t talking to Arata, you might just miss it.

Once you have Arata’s request, you’ll need a 1-star Eggs Over Rice and a 1-star Grilled Fish dish. Since every resource is rated at 0.5 stars, you cannot simply cook these dishes and give them to Arata.

You’ll need to unlock and find the Happy Sprites, learn about sharing items with them to increase the quality of your fish and other resources, and eventually get your fish to 1-Star.

You can read more about this in our Prepping for Some Heavy Lifting quest guide here.

After finishing Arata’s request, you’ll still have to wait for the next bazaar. Arata will set up his stall and offer you some upgrades in the Mountains. He can set up Mushroom Logs or give you a Beekeeping Farm as long as you buy these upgrades from his stall. Please note that you can only purchase one upgrade at a time, as Arata can only work on one thing at a time during the week.

Buy the Beekeeping Farm upgrade and wait until Arata finishes it for you. Once finished, go to the Mountains and look for your Bee farm, as seen in the image above. You’ll see a bee box, but there aren’t any bees yet.

You’ll have to plant flowers on this small plot first before you can attract bees and start getting Honey. You can’t place seeds here. You can only plant your fully-grown flowers on the plot and wait.

These flowers need to be in season, and you can even include the common flowers that grow around the Mountains and Zephyr Town. However, these common flowers only yield Honeycombs.

Specially grown flowers from your farm will give you Invigorating and Mellow Honeycombs as a baseline. Royal Honeycombs are the rarer variation acquired from any flower.

Once you have the flowers planted, wait for three days, and you’ll see a glowing sparkle on the bee box. Interact with it to harvest the Honeycombs.

To turn those Honeycombs into Honey, you’ll need to unlock the Blue Windmill, which is after finding Isaac’s lost item.

When you have the Blue Windmill unlocked, bring your Honeycombs and look for the four types of Honey. It takes a while to process them, especially with limited processing slots.

However, it is worth processing these Honeycombs, as their value increases without requiring any other resources apart from the Honeycombs.

To improve the quality, you don’t need better flowers. Higher-quality flowers yield more Honey, but with the same fixed quality.

To increase the quality of your Honey, you’ll need to talk to Honey (the Happy Sprite). It is just north of your bee farm in the Mountains. On some occasions, Honey goes back to their home in Zephyr Town, so check your map to see if she went back home.

Share Honey with Honey and you’ll increase the quality of your Honeycombs with every four levels. It’s the same process as getting higher-quality fish to finish Arata’s request. However, you can share Honeycombs and Honey. If you process the Honeycombs into Honey and give it to Honey, you’ll get more experience points.

Having a stock of Honey in your storage is always nice because it doesn’t expire, and you can use it to enhance the quality of your dishes by adding Honey as an ingredient to certain recipes, which is applicable to most dessert recipes.
